Love the library? Join the library board!

The current library board's term is almost at an end, and the library needs engaged community members to sit for the 2027-2030 term.

What does a library board do?

A Library Board sets the library’s future direction and ensures the library is meeting the unique needs of its community. A board advocates for its library, and it provides governance.

Yes, library board trustees review policies, consider reports, and look at budget statements. It is all part of ensuring good governance for an important and active community institution.

What makes a good library board trustee?

-You love your library and your community
-You’re open to continuous learning and new ideas
-You’re able to work collaboratively with the rest of the Board to respectfully discuss complex issues and make reasonable decisions
-You have the time and energy to consider reports, attend Board meetings, and contribute to library activities.

We're so happy to welcome back a monthly French Storytime in partnership with Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est. This is a wonderful session for kids who are just learning French, for those who speak French as their primary language at home, or for those who would like to learn more.

All ages are welcome and no registration is needed. Our first session of the fall takes place on Saturday, October 24 at 10:30am. Stay for the session and take out books from our growing French collection in the Kids Corner.

Join us as well for future sessions on Saturday, November 21 and Saturday, December 12 at 10:30am here at the library. We'll have new dates for 2027 coming soon!

🎨 Get Creative with Our New Experience Pass! ✂️

Ready to try something new, get crafty, and let your imagination run wild? The Carleton Place Public Library is excited to introduce our new Experience Pass to Craft Cycle: Creative ReUse Centre! ♻️

Located at 50 Bennett Street in Carleton Place, Craft Cycle is the perfect place to explore your creativity through self-led crafting. With your Experience Pass, you’ll enjoy 90 minutes of crafting time, with basic tools and supplies like scissors, paper, paint, markers, and pens included, as well as access to a sewing machine and cricut!

🧵 Here’s what you need to know:
🖌️ Sessions are currently available Thursday–Sunday, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
📅 Advance booking is required at least 24 hours ahead.
👨‍👧 Makers under 16 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult.
📚 Passes can be borrowed for 4 days.
⏰ Late fines are $5 per day. No holds or renewals.

✨ This special Experience Pass initiative is available until December 22, 2026!

Whether you’re an experienced maker or just looking to try something different, this is a wonderful opportunity to create, experiment, and discover the joy of reusing materials in new ways.

If you have a young reader who has been collecting Dragon Cards, make sure to mark Wednesday, October 21 on your calendar! It's our monthly Reading Dragon Club drop in for kids aged 7-12 to battle out their cards with other kids--or just play a game and meet some new friends.

No registration is required for this fun drop in that takes place afterschool from 4:30-5:30pm--just come and meet us in the Barbara Walsh Room. Parents--please plan on staying in the library just in case your child takes part in the activities but wants to leave a little early.

Reading Dragons is a fun monthly program that steps in where the Summer Reading Program left off. Sign up, collect weekly groups of Dragon cards just for reading at least 30 minutes a few times a week, and battle the dragon cards with friends. It's a lot like Pokemon cards, but there's something new each month (and the dragons are way better).

See you on Wednesday, October 21st from 4:30-5:30pm!

This is the last teaser in the Our Stories Project before the big event tomorrow.

Join us at the Carleton Place Town Hall Auditorium on Saturday, October 10, 2026 at 4pm to view all three documentaries done by local teens and featuring community seniors and their stories. It's going to be a wonderful screening event followed by the awards ceremony!
