Low Water Pressure – Mississippi Road - Update

The watermain leak on Mississippi Road has been stopped and the damage assessed. Public Works is working diligently to have the water service restored to residents by 5:00 p.m.

The leak was due to an unexpected rupture while attempting to repair a known service break.

Residents in the area may experience pressure fluctuations or discoloured water. In the case of discoloured water, please run your cold water tap until the water runs clear.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

Public Works is in the process of repairing a significant watermain break on Mississippi Road. Affected residents in the area may experience little to no water pressure in their homes. Staff are working diligently on effecting the repair; however, it may be late this evening before full service is restored. Once pressure is restored, residents should run their water for several minutes if there is discoloration until such time as the water runs clear.

Freecycle Weekend in Carleton Place!

Help the planet and your pocket at the same time! Reduce the number of items sent to landfill and help them find a new home.

To participate in the Carleton Place Freecycle weekend, label items you wish to give away with a FREE sign and place them at the curb in front of your home on Friday, June 5th.

Avoid confusion. Ensure your items that are not for free are put away.

Tour the neighbourhood and see what wonderful, free treasures you can find!
Be thoughtful. Please do not allow vehicles to idle and pollute unnecessarily as you stop to look.

Items not picked up by 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 7th must be returned to your home. They will not be collected by the Town.

This initiative is brought to you by the Carleton Place Environmental Advisory Committee.

Construction Update

The warmer weather marks the beginning of our road construction season. This year, the Town of Carleton Place and our contractor, Thomas Cavanagh Construction Ltd., will be working on the following streets:
• Lake Ave West reconstruction from O’Donovan Street to the boat launch
• Napoleon Street reconstruction and watermain replacement from Wilson Street to Woodward Street
• Frank Street reconstruction from Emily Street to the river
• Sarah Street reconstruction from Lake Avenue West to Woodward Street
• Sarah Street reconstruction from Arthur Street to Morris Street
• James Street overlay from Bell Street to Townline Road
• Joseph Street overlay from High Street to Townline Road
• Wellington Street overlay from Queen Street to Park Avenue

Residents impacted by the construction will have received letters from the Public Works Department earlier this year. If anyone would like more information about the nature of the work planned for each street, please visit the Town’s website at https://carletonplace.ca/town/municipal-services-info/infrastructure-projects

The Public Works Department would like to remind residents that weather, staffing, and supply of materials can impact the construction schedule. Activities anticipated for the upcoming week include the following:

Lake Avenue West (O’Donovan to Boat Launch)
Within the next two (2) weeks, crews will begin removing the existing asphalt and replacing the granular materials.

Napoleon Street (Woodward to Wilson)
Crews will be removing the existing asphalt and installing the temporary overland watermains next week.

Frank Street (Emily to the river)
Road excavation is expected to begin the week of June 1st.

For everyone’s safety, the Town of Carleton Place and Thomas Cavanagh Construction Ltd. would like to request that residents find alternative routes to avoid these active construction zones. If you cannot avoid these areas, please reduce your speed and follow the directions provided by flag crews and/or any posted signage. Should you have any questions or concerns regarding any of our projects, please do not hesitate to call Public Works at (613) 257-2253.
