Job Summary:
The Town of Carleton Place is looking for two (2) passionate and dedicated Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECE) to join our team. This position offers the opportunity to create a safe and inclusive learning environment for school-age children. The successful candidate(s) will play a key role in fostering children’s development through play and active learning, while adhering to the guidelines set forth by the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) and the Town of Carleton Place policies.

These positions are offered to provide coverage for ongoing leaves of absence within the department.

Key Responsibilities:
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all children in care.
• Build caring and responsive relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
• Create and maintain a welcoming and positive learning environment.
• Administer medication following proper protocols.
• Document and maintain attendance, health, and activity records.
• Assist in meal and snack times, supervise toileting and diaper changes if applicable.
• Collaborate with external services and participate in case conferences.
Follow CCEYA licensing requirements, ensuring compliance with health and safety protocols.
• Engage in daily observations, learning stories, and other educational activities.
Participate in room inspections, health checks, and any necessary repairs or maintenance.

Qualifications and Requirements:
• Diploma or equivalent education in a related field (e.g., Community and Social Services, Early Childhood Assistant), or current enrollment in a relevant program with ongoing progress toward completion.
• Minimum two (2) years of experience working with infants, toddlers, or in a similar childcare setting.
• Willingness to obtain and maintain CPR-C/AED, standard first aid, and anaphylaxis training.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) is required prior to employment.
• Willingness to obtain and maintain CPR-C/AED, standard first aid, and anaphylaxis training.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and time management skills.
• Ability to lift 45 pounds unassisted and perform various physical activities related to childcare.

Working Conditions
This is a full-time position with possible irregular or split shifts starting as early as 6:15 a.m. and ending as late as 6:00 p.m. Occasional work beyond regular hours may be required. This role involves both indoor and outdoor work, with exposure to varying environmental conditions.

Beaches are now open for 2026 season

Riverside Park Beach is now open!

The Riverside Park (175 John Street) beach is open for the season. Lifeguards are on duty daily from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Washrooms are open at the Riverside Park Beach daily from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Centennial Park (169 Joseph Street) beach requires further maintenance prior to opening. The beach will be swim at your own risk until further notice.

Construction Update

Construction activities anticipated for the upcoming week include the following:

Public Works Yard - 97 Franklin Street
Work continues on excavation for the foundation for the new salt and sand structure.

Lake Avenue West (O’Donovan to Boat Launch)
Base course asphalt is scheduled for placement on Friday, June 12th, 2026. Top course asphalt is scheduled for mid to late week next week.

Frank Street (Emily Street to Mississippi River)
Base course asphalt is scheduled for placement on Friday, June 12th, 2026. Top course asphalt is scheduled for the week of June 22nd.

James Street (Townline Road to Bell Street)
Concrete works are to be completed next week. Asphalt overlay is scheduled for mid to late week next week.

Joseph Street (Townline Road to High Street)
Concrete works are to be completed next week. Asphalt overlay is scheduled for the week of June 22nd.

Wellington Street (Queen Street to Park Avenue)
Asphalt padding will be completed by Friday, June 12th. Asphalt overlay is scheduled for mid to late week next week.

Napoleon Street (Wilson to Woodward)
The temporary overland water servicing is to be installed next week.

Sarah Street (Lake to Woodward, Arthur to Morris)
Removals are to commence mid to late week next week.

For everyone’s safety, the Town of Carleton Place would like to request that residents find alternative routes to avoid these active construction zones. If you cannot avoid these areas, please reduce your speed and follow the directions provided by flag crews and/or any posted signage. Should you have any questions or concerns regarding any of our projects, please do not hesitate to call Public Works at (613) 257-2253.

The Public Works Department would like to remind residents that weather, staffing, and supply of materials can impact the construction schedule.

Local rainfall amounts near 50 mm are possible today and into this evening. Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas. Don't drive through flooded roadways.
