Following months of work with Acre Architects, CBCL, and the full project team, the Chester Fire Services Committee is pleased to share the final design for the new Chester Fire Station on Nova Scotia Trunk 3.

The station is designed to feel at home in Chester: a composition of smaller, familiar volumes rather than a single institutional block, sitting low against the treeline, with warm, controlled lighting that serves as a quiet civic beacon on the highway.

Thank you to all who attended the Public Information Meeting on May 11. Over the coming weeks, we will share a closer look at the design — the apparatus bays, the spaces built for firefighter health and safety, the heritage elements, the project financials, and the next steps toward construction.

We invite you to follow along. This station belongs to the whole community.

The Chester Fire Services Committee's 2026/27 Fire & Emergency Services Budget has been approved by all parties: by the Committee on March 11, 2026; and by the joint owners of the Committee: the Village of Chester on March 18, 2026 and the Municipality of Chester on March 26, 2026.

Having the budget passed before the start of the fiscal year on April 1st is a condition of the Intermunicipal Fire Agreement that governs the Village-Municipality partnership, and sets the Chester Volunteer Fire Department up with the support they need to both operate and plan for the future.

All residents in the CVFD's services area (Districts 3, 7 and part of 1) pay the same fire rate, which has seen a two-cent increase this year to 0.134 to enable greater investment in reserves for equipment replacement and for the new fire station. This fire rate is still just below the average in the Municipality.
