2:45 p.m. UPDATE: The scene is clear, highway is reopened to traffic.

🚨 Emergency crews are on the scene of a train/semi collision on Range Road 35 at Highway 1.

Westbound lanes of the highway are impacted due to the incident. Pigs which were being transported by the semi are in the area. Please avoid the area, slow down if you are on that stretch and give crews space to work.

🚤 Dunmore is home to Canada's first dip tank protecting against mussels and other aquatic invasive species

"Cypress County is pleased to see continued provincial investment in protecting Alberta’s waterways and critical water infrastructure," Mayor Dan Hamilton said at today's announcement. "The addition of this new dip tank strengthens the important work being done at watercraft inspection stations to prevent invasive mussels and other aquatic invasive species from entering our region."

💡A NEW LOOK FOR CYPRESS COUNTY IS COMING
DUNMORE, Alta. – A new chapter for Cypress County is about to be revealed.
Cypress County Council has approved a new organizational brand and directed administration to move forward with its implementation across the organization.
The new brand, including Cypress County’s updated logo and visual identity, will be officially unveiled on Sept. 18, 2026, during the Site Link Forum economic development conference.
The rebrand is intended to reflect Cypress County today while creating a strong, modern identity that can carry the organization into the future. It will provide a consistent look and feel across County communications, signage, facilities, vehicles and other materials as implementation progresses.
For now, the details are staying under wraps.
“We’re excited to share this next chapter for Cypress County,” said Mayor Dan Hamilton. “A lot of thought has gone into creating a brand that reflects who we are, where we’ve come from and where we’re headed. September 18 will be the first opportunity for the public to see it.”
Following the unveiling, the new brand will be introduced gradually across the organization as existing materials and assets are updated.

🌿 W**d of Concern — Spotted Knapw**d (Centaurea stoebe)
Primarily a biennial plant – producing a rosette the first year and a flowering bolt the second – but can also be a short-lived perennial, blooming for a few years before dying. Spotted knapw**d can self-pollinate and is also cross-pollinated by insects. A prolific seed producer – individual plants can produce over 140,000 per year – control is extremely difficult on established infestations. Knapw**ds have become well known because of their almost wholesale degradation of large tracts of rangeland in the northwestern US and parts of southern B.C. Knapw**d contaminated hay or plant skeletons caught in vehicle undercarriages often contribute to spread. In winter plant skeletons break off and tumble in the wind, spreading seed. Spotted knapw**d roots exude a chemical that inhibits the root growth of other plants.

Spotted knapw**d is recognized as a Prohibited Noxious W**d under the Alberta W**d Control Act, meaning that “A person shall destroy a prohibited noxious w**d that is on land the person owns or occupies.”

✅ CYPRESS COUNTY MOVES FORWARD WITH NEXT STEPS FOR RECREATIONAL FACILITY
DUNMORE, AB – Cypress County Council has directed Administration to move forward with preparing a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the design-build of a proposed recreation centre in Dunmore.
Council has established a global project budget of $65 million, with funding anticipated to come from a combination of municipal reserves, debentures, grants and sponsorship opportunities.
The proposed facility concept may include twin sheets of ice and up to eight sheets of curling ice, along with supporting spaces and amenities. Through the RFP process, Council will be able to further evaluate design options, project costs and the scope of the facility within the approved global budget.
“Council recognizes that a project of this scale is a significant investment in the future of Cypress County,” said Mayor Dan Hamilton. “Moving to the RFP stage will give us the information we need to better understand what can be delivered within the $65 million budget while ensuring we continue to make responsible financial decisions on behalf of our residents.”
The direction follows preliminary planning and community engagement undertaken by the County. Feedback received through the recent recreation facility survey was positive overall, demonstrating community interest and support for enhanced recreation opportunities in the region.
The proposed Dunmore Junction location provides an opportunity to develop a modern regional recreation facility that supports residents, families, community organizations and user groups while contributing to the continued growth of the area.
Council’s direction to prepare the RFP does not represent final approval of the facility’s design or full scope. Responses received through the competitive procurement process will provide Council with additional information on design, construction costs and available options before further decisions are made.
Cypress County will continue to pursue available provincial and federal grant opportunities, partnerships and sponsorships to help offset the municipal contribution to the project, with the intent of moving the project forward without increasing residential property taxes.
Further information will be shared as the RFP process progresses and additional decisions are made by Council.
