Last night in Fort Macleod, the Eagle Butte Varsity Talons captured the Tier 2 Provincial Championship with a massive 22-6 victory over the F.P. Walshe Flyers! It was the ultimate way to send off our seniors, some of whom have been with our program for five years. We couldn't be prouder of the hard work, leadership, and legacy these young men are leaving behind.
It was a hard-fought battle early on with a few tense lead changes. The Flyers grabbed a 2-1 lead in the first, but the Talons clawed it back in the second after Beau Cavan hit a big triple to center field. F.P. Walshe managed to jump ahead 4-3 in the third, but the Talons flipped the game on its head in the top of the fifth, scoring five runs on six hits to take an 8-6 lead.
From there, the Talons' offense exploded. Eagle Butte racked up 19 hits on the night, breaking the game open with back-to-back seven-run innings in both the sixth and seventh. Beau Cavan led the charge at the plate with a monster night, driving in four runs on three hits. He got plenty of backup from the rest of the lineup, as Ward Davies also collected three hits, while Lucas Dulle, Owen Pasiciel, Ethan Bowey, and Nixon Davis all logged multi-hit games. Big late-game RBIs from Ty Meyer, Nixon Davis, Lucas Dulle, Ethan Bowey, and Isaac Stenhouse kept the momentum rolling all the way to the final out.
On the mound, Gavin Nardari earned the victory, pitching five solid innings and striking out three, while Ward Davies came in to lock down the save and secure the title. Thank you to all the parents, fans, and coaches who supported the team along this journey.
