Chloe came to St. Mary's this summer planning to be a nurse. She left thinking about psychiatric nursing.

You can pick a program, get through the prerequisites and still not know which area of health care you want to work in.

A summer inside a hospital can tell you fast.

"It's given me a lot of options, and I've seen what I like and what I don't like," Chloe says. "I have gained a lot of experience."

As part of the Canada Summer Jobs program, Chloe and many other students at our sites across the province were able to gain valuable work experience this year.

September is a month to reflect on truth and reconciliation. 🧡

We're incredibly proud of the work our teams do year-round, and especially in the days leading up to September 30, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Over the coming weeks, we'll be sharing some of the stories, activities and initiatives that are part of our ongoing commitment to reconciliation.

A day of learning and connecting with the land. 🍃

Last week, people from all over Covenant Health came together to enjoy a medicine harvest walk.

The morning focused on traditional knowledge-sharing and learning about medicinal plants, followed by an afternoon of hands-on identification and harvesting.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to connect with the land and each other. 🌱

Some legacies are planted seed by seed, generation by generation.

We're proud to name our newest site the Stelmach Community Health Centre, a place that will serve Albertans for generations to come.

Congratulations, Ed and Marie. Thank you for a lifetime of service.

A round of applause for Dr. Georg Schmolzer! 👏

Georg has been elected a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, one of the highest honours in Canadian health sciences.

As a neonatologist and clinical scientist at the U of A, he runs clinical trials at the Misericordia and Grey Nuns hospitals.

His studies often involve babies born between 23 and 35 weeks of gestation, a group that has historically been left out of research.

We spoke with him about that work and why he keeps coming back to trials.

"Clinical trials aren't experimental anymore; they are the standard of care."

Congratulations, Georg!

The Covenant Wellness Community just got $51.2M closer to its next building.

Yesterday, the Government of Canada announced $51.2 million in federal financing to help bring 199 new rental homes to the Covenant Wellness Community in southeast Edmonton.

The funding supports Gilbertson Block, built in partnership with Rohit Group, with completion expected in late 2027.

Housing belongs in this community alongside health care and other supports. It shortens the distance between where people live and the care available to them.

Some of our favourite volunteers work for scratches and treats. 🐕

Happy International Dog Day to the volunteer dogs and their owners who visit our sites and events.

They sit with patients and residents, get stopped in every hallway, and somehow always know which staff member needs them most that shift.

Building community through pickleball! 🏓

A pickleball court is now open at St. Mary's Health Care Centre in Trochu.

This initiative is designed to bring families, friends and staff together to enjoy outdoor activity while also giving our residents the opportunity to watch and share in the enjoyment of their loved ones staying active.

As a staff member and pickleball enthusiast, Generoso Gozo believes this is a great opportunity to promote wellness and build community spirit at the site.
