We had a great time this afternoon with ASP with Group 2 doing Tanghulu Sweet Science!

We make predictions and observations about our experiment. We learned about thermal energy and the effects on our matter, the candy. We learned about physical change, melting point and freezing point. Also how different foods reacted differently in the hot syrup. Examples are, the hot syrup does not attach to orange segments the same as the other foods. The marshmallow attached nicely to the syrup but you had to be quick so it wouldn’t melt off the skewer and place it quickly in the ice bath. But it left a delicious gooey center with a crunchy shell. We recorded how long it took for the candy to solidify in the ice bath, some foods took longer than others.

Science can be so much fun, and delicious too!

Tanghulu is a traditional Chinese snack of fresh fruit coated in hardened sugar syrup!

Children will explore how heat and cooling change matter by melting candy, coating fruit, and creating a crunchy shell in ice water.

Through this hands-on activity, children will learn about:

🍬 Changes between solid and liquid states
🌡️ How heat affects materials
🧊 How cooling causes melted candy to harden
🔬 Physical changes and cause-and-effect
👀 Making predictions and observing results

A fun, tasty way to build scientific thinking and discover how temperature changes the world around us!

🧸📚 Romp, Read & Rhyme Time 🎶✨

It's time for our weekly hour of fun, imagination, and friendship!
Every Wednesday from 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM for children 5 and under.

We have structured our hour together into two fun-filled parts: First part(Free Play): Exploration and creativity at a variety of hands-on stations, featuring activities like Play-Doh, LEGO, and more! Second part (Story & Music): Gathering together for a short interactive story, followed by lively songs, rhymes, and movement.

Come out to socialize, play, and build early literacy skills in a relaxed, welcoming environment. We can't wait to see you and your little ones for Romp, Read & Rhyme Time!🧸📚🎶✨

Get ready for some hands-on science and musical fun at Smallwood Academy Library!

Children will create their own homemade kazoo while discovering the science behind sound. Through this fun, interactive activity, they’ll learn how vibrations create sound, explore the difference between high and low pitches, and experiment with how humming changes the sounds their instruments make.

🧪 What will children learn?
🎵 How sound is created through vibrations
🔬 How sound waves travel through the air
🎶 The difference between high and low sounds
🛠️ Creativity, problem-solving and following instructions

Of course, no science experiment is complete without a little fun! We’ll finish by putting our homemade instruments to the test and making music together as a kazoo band! 🎺

Learning through play makes science exciting, and this program is sure to bring plenty of smiles, curiosity and a little noise!

Since school is out, our Romp, Read & Rhyme Time is opening up the fun for everyone!
Bring your little ones and their school-age brothers and sisters down to the Gambo Public Library today. We have plenty of extra activities ready to keep the older kids entertained while the toddlers enjoy their usual program.
