Teensyour opinions are worth volunteer hours!

Join Teen Reviewers and earn volunteer hours by reading, listening to, or watching something from the Haliburton County Public Library collection, then submitting a review.

Your review could be about a book, audiobook, movie, or another item available through HCPL. Reviews will be published online under an anonymous username and may also be featured in future library promotions.

To participate, you must:

• Be a high school student aged 14–18
• Register before submitting a review
• Review an item available through HCPL

It is a great way to earn volunteer hours, share your perspective, and help other teens discover what to read, watch, or listen to next.

We hope everyone had a relaxing summer break and is looking forward to the start of the 2026-2027 school year!

As schools reopen to the public, and families begin to prepare for the return to school, here are the important dates/reminders:

• Schools reopen: All school buildings will reopen to the public on Tuesday, September 1.

• Return to school information: Families should expect to receive new school year information directly from their child's school starting as early as Tuesday, September 1.

• The first day of school: The first day of school for both elementary and secondary students is Tuesday, September 8.

Note: Kindergarten students may have a staggered start and this information is shared directly from the school.

• School year calendar: The 2026-2027 school year calendar can be found on the Board’s Calendar page: https://www.tldsb.ca/calendar/

• Transportation information: Transportation information for the 2026-2027 school year is available via https://www.mybustoschool.ca/ in the parent portal.If parents/guardians have any issues viewing their child’s route information, contact TLDSB Transportation Services via phone at 705-324-6776 extension 21287, or email at [email protected].

Looking for a fun, hands-on activity for your child? Our free MakerPacks are take-home activity kits recommended for children ages 6–13.
New kits are available Saturday, September 5. Available at all HCPL branches while supplies last.

Participating branches include Cardiff, Dorset, Dysart, Gooderham, Highland Grove, Minden Hills, Stanhope and Wilberforce.
