WELCOME CONSTABLE BLAIS TO THE SOUTH SIMCOE POLICE FAMILY

Today, we were proud to officially welcome Adley Blais to the South Simcoe Police family with his swearing-in and badge presentation as a First-Class Constable.

Constable Blais joins us from the Toronto Police Service, bringing with him more than three years of policing experience, along with a strong foundation of knowledge, dedication, and experience that he is excited to bring to the service.

Reflecting on his career journey to the South Simcoe Police Service, Constable Blais put it perfectly, “I took a little detour, but I am home now.” We couldn’t be happier to have you here, Adley!

As you begin this next chapter, we look forward to seeing you protect and serve, while building strong relationships across the communities of Innisfil and Bradford West Gwillimbury.

OUR THOUGHTS ARE WITH OUR POLICING FAMILY

It is with heavy hearts that we share in the grief of our Barrie Police Service family following the tragic loss of Sergeant Brett Carleton.

Sgt. Carleton dedicated himself to serving and protecting others, earning the respect of those who had the privilege of working alongside him. His loss is felt deeply, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones.

From our South Simcoe Police family to our Barrie Police family, please accept our deepest condolences. We share in your sorrow and want you to know that your policing family stands beside you during this difficult time. We understand the profound impact of losing one of our own. In times like this, we support one another, remember those we have lost, and carry their memory forward.

Nitro and Nash are valued members of the SSPS family, and today, we are giving a well-deserved shoutout to these two dedicated K9s and their handler, Police Constable Shawn Gwilliam. YOUTH SUSPECT IDENTIFIED IN INNISFIL STABBING INVESTIGATION - FACING CHARGES INCLUDING AGGRAVATED ASSAULT

On August 23, 2026, at approximately 11:20 p.m., South Simcoe Police responded to a call of an assault after a group of youths reported that their friend had been stabbed following an altercation in the area of 20th Sideroad and Benson Street in the Town of Innisfil.

Officers located the victim, who had sustained several lacerations to the body. Police provided medical assistance until paramedics arrived. The victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital and remains in stable condition.

Uniform officers secured the scene and requested the assistance of the Canine Unit, which conducted an article search in the area.

A youth suspect has been identified and turned themselves in to police. The youth was held in custody pending a bail hearing and cannot be identified in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The youth suspect has been charged with the following offences:

• Aggravated Assault, C.C. Section 268
• Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, C.C. Section 88
• Failure to Comply with an Undertaking, C.C. Section 145(4)(a)

Members of the South Simcoe Police Criminal Investigative Services – Crimes Against Persons Unit attended the scene and are assisting with the investigation, which remains ongoing.

Police believe this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing concern for public safety.

SERIOUS TWO-VEHICLE COLLISION ON CANAL ROAD IN BRADFORD

On August 22, 2026, at approximately 7:40 a.m., South Simcoe Police responded to a serious two-vehicle collision on Canal Road in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.

Officers attended the scene and located both vehicles in the south ditch. The vehicles, a Honda truck and a Lexus SUV, were each occupied by a single driver. One of the vehicles also had two small dogs inside.

The initial investigation determined that the Honda was travelling westbound on Canal Road, while the Lexus was travelling eastbound. As the vehicles approached a bend in the roadway, the Honda crossed the centre line and collided head-on with the Lexus. Both vehicles subsequently entered the ditch and sustained extensive damage.

Fire and paramedic services attended the scene. Both drivers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to hospital for further assessment. Tragically, both dogs were located deceased at the scene by police.

As a result of the investigation, a 32-year-old male from Angus, Ont., has been charged with:
• Dangerous operation of a conveyance, C.C. Section 320.13(1)
• Operation causing bodily harm, C.C. Section 320.14(2)

The accused is scheduled to appear in court on October 1, 2026.

SOUTH SIMCOE POLICE WARN PUBLIC OF INCREASE IN SPOOFED CALLS AND PROMOTIONAL SCAMS

Further to the warning issued in July regarding this type of fraud, South Simcoe Police continue to see an increase in reports involving fraudsters impersonating telecommunications companies and offering fraudulent promotions for free or discounted phones, tablets and other electronic devices.

In these scams, victims receive unsolicited calls from individuals claiming to represent companies such as Rogers or Fido. The caller may offer a special promotion and arrange for devices to be delivered to the victim’s home. After delivery, the fraudster may claim there is a problem with the order or device and instruct the victim to return the items or arrange for someone to collect them.
Victims may later discover unauthorized charges on their accounts, while the devices are no longer in their possession.

These scams can appear very convincing. The public is reminded to take time to independently verify any unexpected promotion before providing information, accepting devices, or returning them. A legitimate-looking caller ID does not mean the call is genuine, as phone numbers can be spoofed.

PUBLIC SAFETY MESSAGE

South Simcoe Police remind the public to:

➡ Be cautious of unsolicited calls offering free devices or exclusive promotions.
➡ Never provide personal, banking, or account information to an unexpected caller.
➡ Verify promotions directly with the company using the number on your bill or its official website.
➡ Never call a number provided by an unsolicited caller.
➡ Do not allow an unknown person to collect a package or device from your residence.
➡ Review your accounts regularly for unauthorized charges or suspicious activity.

If you believe you have been targeted, contact your service provider directly and report the incident to police and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca.

STOLEN VEHICLE RECOVERED DURING LCBO THEFT INVESTIGATION

On August 20, 2026, police were contacted by staff at an LCBO in Innisfil regarding two males who matched the description of a vehicle and suspects involved in a theft at an LCBO in Barrie.
While communicating with police, LCBO staff continued to observe the two males. One male entered the store, placed eight bottles of alcohol into a basket, and proceeded toward the checkout area. While staff were briefly away from the register, the male exited the store without attempting to pay for the items.
As he exited the store, the male observed responding officers outside, abandoned the basket, and attempted to flee on foot. He was subsequently arrested.

The second male remained in a Chevrolet Camaro that both males had arrived in. Through investigation, officers determined that the vehicle had been reported stolen by Peel Regional Police. The vehicle was also contained a stolen Ontario licence plate and eight bottles of alcohol that had previously been reported stolen from the Barrie LCBO.

As officers approached the vehicle, the driver attempted to flee by rapidly reversing and accelerating into a marked police vehicle that was parked behind the Camaro. No injuries were sustained by the driver or any officers, and the driver was arrested.

As a result of the investigation a 24-year-old male was charged with:
• Theft Under $5,000
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (Motor Vehicle)
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (Ontario Licence Plate)
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (Liquor)

The second male was charged with:
• Theft Under $5,000
• Dangerous Operation
• Flight from Peace Officer
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (Motor Vehicle)
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (Ontario Licence Plate)
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (Liquor)
Both accused were transported to the South Division and held for bail.

Today, we remember and honour the memory and sacrifice of Constable Alan Kuzmich.

On August 21, 2002, Constable Kuzmich was killed in the line of duty while serving and protecting his community. At the time of his death, he was 41 years old and had proudly served for 19 years. He was also a husband and father of two.

This morning Acting Sergeant McCallum held a small ceremony with our recruits at the Wall of Honour at the Ontario Police College, taking a moment to remember Al and honour his service and sacrifice.

His service, sacrifice and legacy remain an important part of the history of the South Simcoe Police Service and the communities he served. His sacrifice is also a solemn reminder of the risks our members face each day in serving and protecting our communities.

Today, and always, we remember Al. We honour his service and the ultimate sacrifice he made for others.

SOUTH SIMCOE POLICE INVESTIGATE THEFT FOLLOWING DISTRACTION IN BRADFORD

On August 18, 2026, police received a report of a theft that occurred at approximately 12:45 p.m. in the area of Tyndall Drive and Chelsea Crescent in Bradford West Gwillimbury.

The victim was at a community mailbox when a black SUV stopped nearby. While in the vehicle, two males asked the victim for directions to Walmart. After the victim provided directions, the suspects handed the victim several pieces of jewellery to look at. While the victim was looking at the jewellery, one suspect leaned out the passenger side front window and removed a gold chain from around the victim's neck. The suspects then fled at a high rate of speed, travelling northbound on Tyndall Drive before turning eastbound onto Chelsea Crescent.

The suspects are described as:
• Male, brown complexion, approximately 30 years old, wearing a beige T-shirt and dark pants.
• Male, brown complexion, approximately 30 years old, wearing a light-coloured T-shirt and dark pants.

Police have obtained video footage and are releasing the following images of the suspect vehicle in an appeal for public information (photos attached).

PUBLIC SAFETY REMINDER

South Simcoe Police remind the public to be cautious when approached unexpectedly by strangers, particularly when they attempt to engage you in a transaction, display jewellery or valuables, or use a distraction to draw your attention away from your personal property.

If you encounter suspicious individuals or activity, do not confront or chase them. Move to a safe location and contact police. If safe to do so, note details such as the vehicle description, licence plate, direction of travel and suspect descriptions. Residents with security or dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident are encouraged to preserve the footage and provide it to police.
