🚒 Learning, community & a little bit of action! 🔥

Our firefighters from Stn 3, Bobcaygeon headed over to the Aspira Retirement Car Show this past Saturday, putting on an impressive auto extrication demonstration! 🚗🧯

Our Public Education Team was in attendance, spreading the word about Test Your Smoke Alarm Day coming up on September 28th. 🏠🚨

🚜Farm fires can have devastating consequences.🔥

From equipment and electrical systems to buildings and fields, there are many potential fire risks on the farm.

Check out these tips from the Office of the Fire Marshal to help prevent farm fires before they start.

The harvest season is here!

Dry crops, dust, and hot machinery can increase the risk of fire during harvest season.

Remember to:
🌾 Keep farm equipment clean and well maintained.
🌾 Check equipment for signs of wear or damage.
🌾 Keep dry crops, straw and grass away from hot engines.
🌾 Keep a fire extinguisher nearby and know how to use it.
🌾 Take regular breaks to inspect machinery.

Stay alert and stay safe this harvest season.

🏒First Responders took over the ice! 🚒🚔🚑

Kawartha Lakes Fire Rescue Service, Kawartha Lakes Police and Kawartha Lakes Paramedic Service were proud to join the Lindsay Jr. A Muskies for their First Responder Appreciation Night - and we had the honour of kicking things off with puck drop.

Thank you for the invitation, Muskies! We’re proud to be part of this community, serving the City of Kawartha Lakes.

📚 Back-to-School Safety Reminders

As students head back to school, it’s a good time to review a few important fire and life safety reminders — whether they’re heading to elementary school, high school or a college residence.

🚗 Stay alert on the road
School zones can be busy. Slow down, watch for children and avoid distractions while driving. When a school bus has its lights flashing, stop and give students space to get on and off safely.

🏠 Check smoke and CO alarms
Make sure alarms are installed in the right locations and are working properly - you need them on every storey. Make sure everyone knows what the alarm sounds like and what to do when it activates.

September 28 is Test Your Smoke Alarm Day - take a few minutes to test every smoke alarm in your home and replace batteries or alarms when needed.

🍳 For students living on their own
Whether cooking in a family kitchen, apartment or residence, stay in the kitchen while cooking and keep anything that can catch fire away from the stovetop.

🚪 Know two ways out
At home, school or a student residence, know your primary and secondary exits and keep exit routes clear. If an alarm sounds, leave immediately and call 911 from a safe location.

Summer Recap: KLFRS Edition 🚒

This summer, Kawartha Lakes Fire Rescue Service remained active across the municipality, responding to emergencies, completing ongoing training and connecting with residents through community events, station tours and fire prevention initiatives.

With 19 stations serving more than 3,300 km², KLFRS provides a municipal-wide emergency response while continuing to focus on prevention, preparedness and public education.

As we head into fall, that work continues. We remain ready to respond, prepared to educate and committed to keeping Kawartha Lakes safe.
