Members of Nova Scotia Power’s Reliability Team is hosting a community reliability meeting on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at the Greenfield and District Volunteer Fire Department.

Local insights from community members in Greenfield, Labelle, Middlefield, Buckfield, Pleasantfield, and the surrounding area are invaluable in helping the NSPI team better understand the priorities and concerns of the community. Members of the NSPI Reliability team will address reliability plans, and answer questions.

📣 ANNUAL ASPHALT PAVING UPGRADES
Beginning August 31, 2026

Region of Queens Municipality will be undertaking its annual asphalt paving upgrades in Liverpool beginning Monday, August 31, 2026, and is expected to be completed in mid-September.

The work is part of the Municipality’s ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving the local road network and will include the rehabilitation and resurfacing of selected streets.

PAVING LOCATIONS
This year’s paving work will take place on the following streets:

• Trunk 3 – Old Port Mouton Rd to Summer St

• Common St – King St to Wolfe St

• Waterloo St – Ellenwood St to Crowell St

• Waterloo St – Near Old Bridge St

• Parker St – Payzant St to Union St

• Birch Ave – Wolfe St to Civic 28

• MacLeod St – Lower Portion near Henry Hensey Dr

• Main St – Near Legion St

• Main St – Near Gorham St

Work locations may be adjusted based on weather, site conditions, and construction requirements.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Work will generally involve preparation, including the replacement of valves and manholes, milling of keyways/removal of existing asphalt, followed by the placement of new asphalt. Depending on the condition of the roadway, localized repairs may also be completed before paving.

Residents and motorists should expect:

• Temporary traffic control and possible delays;

• Temporary uneven surfaces, dips, or raised pavement edges following milling;

• Construction equipment, noise, and dust;

• Temporary roadway marking; and

• Temporary restrictions to parking or access while work is underway.

Motorists are asked to slow down, use caution, and follow all traffic control measures when travelling through active work areas.

WORK SCHEDULE
Work is weather dependent, and individual sections of roadway may take anywhere from several hours to several days to complete. Work hours will generally be 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday to Friday, although extended hours may be required.

Every effort will be made to minimize impacts to residents, businesses, and motorists while completing this important infrastructure work.

Residents or businesses with special access requirements or other concerns related to the paving work are encouraged to contact the Region of Queens Municipality in advance so that reasonable efforts can be made to accommodate their needs.

We have been asked to share the following event information:

South Shore District Labour Council 's annual Labour Day Event will take place Monday, September 7, 2026 at Privateer Park, 94 Henry Hensey Drive, Liverpool from 11:30 am-2:00pm. This event is open to all!

Great music, food and awesome organizations will again be present. The Labour Council will be providing free hotdogs and beverages. Members of the Lunenburg/Queens Special Olympics will be hosting the food booth as a fundraiser for the organization.

An event to look forward to and not to miss!

A focus for 2026 will be fighting for affordability, housing and strengthening worker power against corporate greed.

Barring a major storm this is a rain or shine event. Come prepared for the weather!

Labour Day is an annual celebration of social and economic achievements of workers. Worker’s struggles achieved paid vacations, minimum annual paid leave, pension schemes and other employee benefits which are enjoyed today.

In 1894, the Dominion Government of Canada declared the first Monday of September to be a holiday to recognize the many contributions of workers have made to the strength prosperity and wellbeing of Canada.

Queens County has many summertime traditions - one of the longer running ones is the Hank Snow Home Town Museum's 34th Tribute County Music Concert ... and it starts TONIGHT!!!

If you've noticed an abundance of RVs and new faces in Liverpool -- they may be visitors here for the Tribute! Be sure to give them a warm Queens County Welcome, and stop by, and experience the massive line up of country music performers taking the stage through to Sunday, August 24!

It's another gorgeous summer day out there! Grab your towel, bring your buddies, and get ready for fun this afternoon at Public Swim at 2:30 p.m. - 4 p.m. at the Big Splash - Outdoor Pool at Queens Place Emera Centre.

And ... this evening, there is a FREE Women and Girls Swim from 5 - 6:30 p.m. Women, girls and children under age 5 are welcome to enjoy a swim this evening.

Join the crew at the Brooklyn Marina and launch your creative Cardboard Boat at the 3rd Annual Brooklyn Marina Cardboard Boat Races! The event is on Saturday August 22nd at 2pm
(Rain Date August 29).

Food and Entertainment!

BOAT CONSTRUCTION
The entire boat must be built of cardboard. Cardboard boxes, cardboard block, corrugated cardboard or cardboard carpet tubes can be used. No coated cardboard permitted. Duct tape, glue and liquid nail adhesive can be used and latex paint for water proofing. There shall be NO wood, plastic, sono tubes, styrofoam, spray foam, fiberglass or anything else that’s not cardboard in the construction of your boat. There shall be NO staples, clamps, screws. Just cardboard. 25% limit on duct tape covering.

RULES
- One to four crew members.
- All boat occupants must wear appropriately sized Personal Flotation Devices.
- Boats propelled by paddles.
- No rafts or paddleboard styles.

Curbside waste collection in Queens County scheduled for today, Monday, August 17, 2026 in the Labelle area (Highway 210 from Medway River Road to the Queens-Lunenburg County line, including those roads off of Highway 210 in that noted section, as well as Molega Road, South Brookfield) has been re-scheduled due to a motor vehicle accident in the area.

Collection has been re-scheduled to Tuesday, August 18, 2026. Affected residents are asked to have waste curbside by 8 am on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

eminder! Today is the day -- Join us at 4:45 p.m. for the Grand Opening Ceremony to celebrate the opening of The Big Splash - Outdoor Pool at Queens Place Emera Centre. There are a speeches at 4:45 p.m., followed by a free public swim from 5 - 6:30 p.m.!
Come help us make a big splash for the opening of the new outdoor pool!!

You are invited! Join Region of Queens Municipality’s Council, invited guests and community members for an event to celebrate the opening of The Big Splash – Outdoor Pool at Queens Place Emera Centre. The Grand Opening is taking place on Monday, August 17 at 4:45 p.m.

There are speeches at 4:45 p.m., followed by at free public swim from 5 – 6:30 p.m., with live music by Sam Wentzell! Please note that the capacity limits are in place during the event – 90 people in the pool, and a maximum of 150 people total on the pool deck and in the pool.

We are excited to celebrate this exciting new recreational facility for the community – and want to make a big splash about it!
