Here’s to 36 years of German reunification and 75 years of diplomatic relations between Germany and Canada. 🇩🇪🤝🇨🇦🍻

Following the unification of the two German states on October 3, 1990, the former East Germany became part of the Federal Republic of Germany. Germany was reunited. Since then, October 3 has been Germany’s national holiday, commemorating the reunification of the country.

This year’s celebrations were held under the motto “So Berlin.” We had the pleasure of hosting one of Berlin’s finest, DJ ✨

The event marked German reunification - and it also commemorated the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Germany and Canada. The German Embassy was delighted to welcome two distinguished guests: Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Johann Wadephul and his Canadian counterpart, the Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada.

We would like to express our gratitude to everyone who joined us for the celebration.

A fascinating day at Seaspan Vancouver Shipyards! 🚢
Our Consul General, Dr. Susanne Olberg and her Deputy, Dirk Jakobi, had the pleasure of touring the shipyard and discussing the deep industrial links between Germany and Canada.

Whether it is the JSS program—incorporating German design and Everllence (former MAN) engines—or the envisioned collaboration with TKMS for the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project, the cooperation is a testament to our shared commitment to innovation and security. 🇨🇦🇩🇪

This year marks the 11th anniversary of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Final Report.

On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour the Survivors of residential schools, their families, and communities, and remember the children who never returned home.

Today is a day to reflect on the history and lasting legacy of residential schools, listen to the experiences and perspectives of Indigenous peoples, and learn as the work of truth and reconciliation continues.

The Embassy and Consulates of the Federal Republic of Germany stand with Indigenous peoples in Canada in honouring their histories, cultures, and resilience.

Every Child Matters.

Cette année marque le 11e anniversaire du rapport final de la Commission de la vérité et de la réconciliation.

En cette Journée nationale de la vérité et de la réconciliation, nous rendons hommage aux survivants des pensionnats indiens, à leurs familles et à leurs communautés, et nous rendons hommage aux enfants qui ne sont jamais rentrés chez eux.

Aujourd’hui est un jour propice à la réflexion sur l’histoire et l’héritage durable des pensionnats, à l’écoute des expériences et des points de vue des peuples autochtones, et à l’apprentissage alors que le travail de vérité et de réconciliation se poursuit.

L’ambassade et les consulats de la République fédérale d’Allemagne se tiennent aux côtés des peuples autochtones du Canada pour honorer leur histoire, leur culture et leur résilience.

Chaque enfant compte.

On September 29th from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, the German Ambassadors’ Residence will open its grounds for — an evening celebrating the German language in all its quirks, sounds and possibilities.

Try your hand at German karaoke, take a mini-lesson, put your knowledge to the test in our interactive quiz, play with words and discover a few unexpected ways into the language along the way.

Whether you speak German, are learning it, remember a few words from school or are simply curious, you’re welcome. No perfect pronunciation required. Beginners absolutely welcome.
