Destination Germany 🇩🇪
Who says youth hostels have to be ordinary? 😎

From sleeping among the treetops to waking up on a ship, Germany has some seriously unusual places to stay:

🌳 Panarbora Youth Hostel, Waldbröl, North Rhine-Westphalia — you can stay here in tree houses up to seven metres above the ground, Asian yurts, African mud huts or South American stilt houses

🚢 Weser Youth Hostel Ship, Bremen — spend the night aboard a real ship and wake up on the River Weser.

🏭 Landschaftspark Youth Hostel, Duisburg, North Rhine-Westphalia — industrial heritage meets modern adventure in a former steelworks landscape.

🏝️ Wangerooge Youth Hostel, Lower Saxony — island life, North Sea air and plenty of room to slow down.

Because sometimes the accommodation is part of the adventure. 🛏️✨

💌 What do Germans love about Canada?
(le français suit)

Sometimes, what makes a place special is not only what you see, but how you feel when you’re there.

In today’s episode, Ahi shares what she loves most about Canada:

🌎 Diversity

People from all over the world come together, bringing different cultures, perspectives, and traditions that make Canada a vibrant place to live.

🤝 Openness

Canada’s welcoming spirit and openness to others create a sense of belonging and make it easy to connect across cultures.

Because after 75 years of diplomatic relations, we know:

Friendship grows strongest when diversity is celebrated and people feel welcome to be themselves. 🇩🇪🇨🇦

Your turn:
💬 What does diversity and openness mean to you in Canada?

____

: Germany, Canada, and the Power of Global Cooperation 🇩🇪 🇨🇦

Severe wildfire seasons, like the recent emergency in British Columbia, remind us that climate challenges affect us all. In these times, the friendship between Germany and Canada is more important than ever.

We believe in standing shoulder-to-shoulder. This means providing support during crises, but also investing in future solutions. A great example is the recent MoU between Conair and the DLR at ILA Berlin, aimed at developing the next generation of aerial firefighting.

By combining scientific expertise—such as sustainable land management—with industrial innovation, we are working together to protect our forests and communities. Solidarity and shared knowledge remain our strongest tools.

Did you know? Tackling modern wildfires requires a dual approach: combining effective emergency response with proactive landscape management.

What Germans love about Canada? 🇨🇦💙

(Le français suit)

In today’s episode of our anniversary series, our outgoing Deputy Head of Mission, Karina Häuslmeier, shares why the Ottawa River is one of her favourite things about living in Canada’s capital.

Every season brings something new—from swimming on warm summer days to enjoying snowy winter landscapes along its shores. The river offers countless ways to experience the outdoors and reminds us how closely nature is woven into everyday life in Canada.

After 75 years of diplomatic relations, places like the Ottawa River continue to bring people together and create lasting connections.

💙 How would you enjoy the Ottawa River throughout the year?

——
