We’re honoured to share that Pickering Public Library’s Anti-Black Racism Working Group (ABRWG) has been recognized with the 2025 City of Pickering Community Group Award. Presented through the City’s annual Civic Awards, this recognition celebrates community groups whose work stands out for their contribution and impact across Pickering.

Over the past several years, the ABRWG has worked in close collaboration with staff to help shape library services through lived experience, ongoing dialogue, and shared action. This work has inspired meaningful changes across programs, collections, staff learning, and more inclusive approaches to service.

A big congratulations to every ABRWG member who has dedicated their time and energy to help create better library experiences for all. We’re grateful for the continued insight and commitment that has helped move this work forward.

Congratulations, Pickering Battle of the Books teams! 🏆📚

After some incredible match-ups at the library, the William Dunbar PS Junior team and the Fairport Beach PS Intermediate team went on to represent Pickering at regionals. William Dunbar PS brought home third place medals 🥉, while Fairport Beach PS earned a strong fifth place finish after a hard-fought competition.

Throughout the competition, participating students read a combined total of over 2,100 books 🤯 — an outstanding achievement in reading, teamwork, and dedication. Way to go! 👏

Big news! 🎉📚 Pickering Public Library has been recognized nationally for our 2025 TD Summer Reading Club, placing third in Canada in an award presented by Library and Archives Canada! This recognition celebrates the creative, engaging programs that help kids and youth discover a love of reading.

Thank you to all the families, children, and community members who make SRC so special year after year. We can’t wait to do it all again! 📖
