Please join us in the commemoration of two decorated veterans and their invaluable contributions to our communities and the world for generations to come.

Robin Dawatsare, a member of English River First Nation, served in the Canadian Armed Forces for over 22 years. He was a Sargent in the First Battalion Princess Patricia’s Light Infantry, where he went on tour in Bosnia and Afghanistan. This agile battalion has numerous Battle Honours and was awarded the Commander-in-chief Citation for distinguished service in Afghanistan.

Robin, now retired, is home in Patuanak with his wife, who supported him throughout his career.

Rod Stoesz, a member of Lac La Ronge Indian Band, was a Corporal Weapons Technician for over a decade. Rod maintained and repaired weapons, weapons systems and ancillary equipment in ever-changing environments. He completed a tour in Bosnia in 2000.

Rod is now a leader with the Des Nedhe Institution as a Technical Services Manager.
Thank you Rod, Robin and all Indigenous veterans for your service.

The traditional territory of English River First Nation in northern Saskatchewan is home to some of the world’s highest grade uranium deposits. With a strong sense of stewardship for their ancestral lands and an entrepreneurial spirit, English River has created lasting relationships and opportunities for their community within the mining industry. Creative Fire, one of Des Nedhe Group's companies, was thrilled to bring together English River and the Nuclear Energy Agency for the launch of the NEA’s stakeholder guide “Maximising Uranium Mining’s Social and Economic Benefits”. Community members Tom Lariviere, Cheyenna Campbell and Norman Wolverine will talk about the successes, challenges and their vision for Indigenous participation in uranium mining and the nuclear sector at a webinar hosted by the NEA on Fri, Sep 2 at 8 am CST/10 am EST.

– congratulations Laura Maurice on earning the role of Administrative Assistant for Tron Construction & Mining LP! Laura’s natural determination and positive demeanor lead her to this motivational career move. She understands the importance of relationship building in business, gained from years of experience in retail. Now, as a professional with a web of connections, Laura brings this skill to the office as one of our leading team players.

As a mother, Laura knows how important it is to show the many ways that members can live a full and vibrant life in both rural and urban settings. She said, “With hard work and dedication, you can do it, you can live the life you want.”

When Laura is not working, she is with her two children playing in the water, enjoying the pool in town or by the river. Thank you, Laura, for investing in your career with us and your attitude of gratitude!

- Congratulations to ERFN member Tallynn Campbell for earning his role as a Fourth Year Carpenter’s Apprentice! Tallynn’s work as a labourer with Tron C&M over the past four years gave him the opportunity to work on carpentry projects in Saskatchewan and Ontario. He was mentored by Journeyperson Carpenters Dennis Peeteetuce and Shawn Daniels, who provided Tallynn with the necessary skills to work on industrial projects. Tallynn says there is no shortage of amazing journeypeople at Tron to learn from, and there is no doubt Tallynn’s knowledge will be put to good use – carpenters are in short supply across Canada!

Tallynn is the fourth child of Elders Isidore and Ornella Campbell, who gave their children all the tools they needed to meet their challenges head on – including the skills they needed to advance in their chosen careers. It’s a second career for Tallynn. Although he worked in the mines for 10 years, he wanted to go back to carpentry, what he loved doing when he was younger. As he says, “It’s never too late to start over.”

Not only is Tallynn a skilled carpenter’s apprentice, he is also an accomplished musician and guitar player who has played in venues throughout northern Saskatchewan. Huge congratulations, Tallynn, for investing in your career, learning from the best and doing work that makes you happy!

Today is the World Day for Safety and Health at Work – an important reminder of the importance of health and safety across all our businesses, including retail, construction and professional services.

It’s a shared responsibility to ensure each member of our team is safe – both physically and psychologically. We work very hard to keep our high standards of health and safety, and to create an environment where team members can consult, access information, provide feedback or ask questions about our programs and other risk mitigation measures.

Thank you to every member of our DNG community for making workplace health and safety a priority – for you, for your teams, and for your families and communities.
