Squamish Fire Rescue is a composite fire department that is dedicated to providing effective service to our community through prevention, education and emergency response.

A small wildfire (V31805) began overnight which was visible and reported from some areas of Valleycliffe and Crumpit Woods. A BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) crew is actioning the fire. The fire is reported as being 0.009 hectare in size and currently classified as being held.

Squamish Fire Rescue is maintaining contact with BCWS, though isn't currently involved due to the accessibility of the terrain.

Yesterday's fires north of Squamish west of Highway 99 near the salt sheds are both reported as being under control. A third fire further south of these first two is reported as being held.

🚨 ACTIVE INCIDENT - WILDFIRE 🚨

Squamish Fire Rescue is currently on scene at a wildfire on Highway 99, just north of the salt sheds.

⚠️ One southbound lane is closed. Miller Cap is on scene providing traffic control.

Please do not stop on the highway to view the fire. Slow down, follow traffic control directions and allow emergency crews to work safely.

Please use caution when travelling through the area and expect delays.

Looking for a challenge? Join a dedicated team serving our community and take on an experience that can truly be life-changing.

With professional training and hands-on experience, you’ll develop valuable skills as a firefighter, teammate and leader. 👨🏽‍🚒👩🏼‍🚒

• Must be a permanent resident of Squamish at the time of application
• Must be 19 years of age or older
• 7-month recruit training program
• Training 2 days per week
• 100% attendance is required
• 3-year personal commitment to Squamish Fire Rescue
• Driver’s abstract and criminal record check required

We’re looking for positive, energetic and community-minded people who are ready to learn, work as a team and take on a challenge.

⚠️ IMPORTANT REMINDER ⚠️

B.C. under provincial state of emergency due to considerable number of wildfires and vulnerable wildfire conditions.

As communities across the province continue to face the devastating impacts of wildfires, we are urging the public to remain vigilant under current conditions. Friday’s wildfire near Brohm Lake was fortunately put out following a quick response by BC Wildfire ground and air crews – this event highlights the very real risks we are facing.

📌 Key restrictions and reminders:

🚫 Off-road vehicles (ORV) are prohibited on Crown Land to reduce wildfire risks as wildfire response resources can be severely strained in such times.
🚫 Campfire Ban remains in effect for everyone in the District of Squamish, and surrounding regions.
⚠️We are actively responding to complaints of people ignoring the bans, and we will issue fines. The fine is a minimum of $1150.00 for each person around the fire.
⚠️Further restrictions – such as a backcountry access ban – may take effect if fire conditions worsen or further resources are drawn to new fires.

The many people recreating in our region creates a dangerous scenario for forest fires – now is not the time for risky behaviour while recreating or camping.

⚠️ 🔥 WILDFIRE ALERT 🔥⚠️

Please be advised that the BC Wildfire Service is responding to a wildfire off the Cheekye Forest Service Road, across Highway 99 from Brohm Lake.

According to the BC Wildfire Service, the fire is approximately 0.3 hectares in size. No structures or infrastructure are currently at risk.

A BC Wildfire Service crew is on site, and a helicopter is bucketing water from Cat Lake. The public is strongly advised to stay out of Cat Lake while helicopter water operations are underway.

The wildfire is outside the District of Squamish boundaries. Squamish Fire Rescue is on standby to assist if required.

⚠️ Please avoid the area. Motorists are asked not to stop on Highway 99 to view the fire, as this creates additional significant safety risks for motorists and emergency crews.

✅ UPDATE – GAS LEAK CONTAINED
7/29/2026 - 11:56 AM

FortisBC has successfully stopped the gas leak at Pemberton Avenue and Fourth Avenue.

The risk to public safety has ended, and the shelter-in-place advisory has been lifted.

FortisBC crews will remain on scene to complete repairs to the damaged gas line. The area will remain closed to traffic until the repair has been completed.

Thank you to everyone for your patience and cooperation while crews worked to safely resolve the incident.

⚠️ PUBLIC SAFETY NOTICE – GAS LEAK ⚠️

Squamish Fire Rescue is on scene at an active gas leak in the area of Pemberton Avenue and Fourth Avenue in downtown Squamish.

🚧 Please avoid the area. A one-block safety perimeter has been established around the leak.

⛔️Residents and businesses in the area are asked to:
• Shelter in place.
• Close all windows and doors.
• Eliminate all ignition sources.
• Do not smoke.
• Do not start or run vehicles within the affected area.

The nearby construction site has been safely evacuated. There are no injuries reported.

FortisBC crews are now on scene and are working to safely resolve the incident.

We appreciate your cooperation and will provide updates as more information becomes available.

Hot, dry weather and changing conditions can quickly increase wildfire risk throughout our region. Whether you’re hiking, camping, working, or enjoying the outdoors, it’s important to stay alert and make safe decisions.

Help reduce the risk:
🌲 Follow all campfire bans and wildfire restrictions.
🚫 Never discard cigarette butts on the ground or from a vehicle.
⚡ Be aware that lightning and strong winds can rapidly change fire conditions.
💨 Monitor air quality and limit strenuous outdoor activity if wildfire smoke is affecting your area.

If you see smoke or a wildfire, report it immediately:

With hot temperatures in the forecast and dry conditions continuing across the region, we want to remind everyone that a campfire ban is currently in effect within the District of Squamish. These restrictions are in place to reduce wildfire risk and help keep our community, firefighters, and surrounding forests safe.

The following activities are prohibited:
🚫 Campfires
🚫 Category 2 and Category 3 fires
🚫 Fireworks
🚫 Sky lanterns
🚫 Binary exploding targets
🚫 Burn barrels or burn cages of any size
🚫 Air curtain burners
🚫 Tiki torches
🚫 Wood-burning saunas and hot tubs

The following activities are prohibited year-round within District of Squamish boundaries:
🚫 Fires in any public space, including riverbanks, mountainsides, and beaches
🚫 Open-air burning, including yard waste, garden debris, and construction materials

Permitted:
✅ CSA or ULC-approved cooking stoves and portable campfire devices that use gas, propane, liquid fuel, or gaseous fuel, provided the flame height is less than 15 cm.

Failure to comply with the District of Squamish Fire Service Bylaw No. 3190, 2025 may result in fines of up to $1,000.

Please do your part to prevent human-caused wildfires and help protect our community during this period of elevated fire danger. Stay informed, follow all fire restrictions, and report any signs of wildfire immediately by dialing 9-1-1 or *5555 from a cell phone.

The wildland fire has been extinguished and crews are now clear from the scene.

This incident serves as an important reminder of how dry conditions remain despite cooler temperatures and intermittent rain. Please continue to use caution, follow all current fire ban restrictions, and report any signs of smoke or fire immediately.

Squamish Fire Rescue is currently on scene at an active wildland fire in the area of Midnight Way and Paradise Valley Rd.

The public is asked to stay out of the area immediately. Please do not stop to watch, gather near the scene, or attempt to access surrounding roads or trails. Keeping the area clear is critical to allow firefighters and emergency crews to safely and effectively respond.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.

As we head into the weekend, we would like to remind everyone that a campfire ban is in effect within the District of Squamish boundaries.

All fires are strictly prohibited. All residential campfire permits are suspended until the ban is rescinded.

The following activities are prohibited:
🚫Residential Campfires (category 1)
🚫Category 2, category 3 open fires
🚫Fireworks
🚫Sky Lanterns
🚫Binary Exploding Targets
🚫Burn Barrels or Burn Cages
🚫Air Curtain Burners
🚫Tiki torches
🚫Wood-burning saunas and hot tubs

The following are never allowed within District of Squamish boundaries:
