Firefighters from stations 3, 4 & 5 battled a fire over the weekend on Quinn Road East. They were assisted by water tankers from stations 6, 7 and Kingston Fire & Rescue. The fire was brought under control in four hours with no injuries to humans or livestock. The fire originated in a tractor and quickly speak to a hay bailer and outbuilding with an estimated dollar loss of $300,000. SFFR would like to remind everyone that propane tanks should be stored outside of buildings. During a fire they can quickly overheat and explode putting fire fighters at extreme risk.

A truck driver was rescued from this overturned concrete truck yesterday on Burnt Hills Road. It was a very complex extrication as the driver had two legs trapped in a very small area, 25 tons of concrete in the truck, and a leaking fuel tank . The female pup in the photo was initially presumed crushed in the wreckage however our fire crews were very relieved to find the disoriented pup about 100 feet away from the crash site in a wooded area. Thanks to our firefighters, Frontenac Paramedics, and the Ontario Provincial Police for their stamina and professionalism on this dangerous response in very humid working conditions.

Please try to limit your time outdoors today as the smoke from the forest fires in northwestern Ontario is causing poor air quality in much of southern Ontario. The poor air quality is expected to last overnight and conditions are expected to improve for tomorrow.

When indoors, keep windows and doors closed as much as possible. Please do not call 911 if you smell smoke in the air. Only call 911 if you see large plumes of smoke in the air.
