Appreciation to MPP Ernie Hardeman for Hosting the Annual Celebration of George Leslie Mackay!

Dr. George Leslie Mackay crossed the Pacific 154 years ago, and devoted his life to Taiwan, making lasting contributions to healthcare, education, and social development.

His legacy also laid the foundation for the enduring friendship between Taiwan and Ontario.

It was a great honour to join Ontario Ministers, MPPs, and members of the Taiwanese community at the Ontario Legislature, to commemorate Dr. Mackay’s remarkable contributions and celebrate the strong ties between Taiwan and Ontario.

Today, Taiwan is not only a partner that shares the values of democracy, freedom, and innovation, but also a trusted economic partner.

There is tremendous potential for Taiwan and Ontario to deepen cooperation in areas such as AI,semiconductors, green energy, EV supply chains, critical minerals, healthcare,and youth exchanges.

🔥 Congratulations to Team Taiwan’s women’s team! They clinched the team gold medal with an impressive tally of 2 golds, 1 silver, and 1 bronze—and most importantly, secured a full quota of spots for the upcoming Nagoya Asian Games!

🥇 Rising star Wang Jie-ling, just 17 years old, claimed gold in the women’s 46kg category and was named the 🏆 Best Female Athlete ( ) of the Games

🎬 The 2nd Pride Asian Film Festival (PAFF 2026) is coming! The festival runs May 28–31 in Toronto as an official Affiliate Event. 🏳️‍🌈

🌈 is a non-profit charitable film festival dedicated to celebrating cinema — and the belief that film has the power to connect communities and amplify underrepresented voices, including women, ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, and the LGBTQ2S+ community.

🌈 is the first country in Asia to legalize same-sex marriage, doing so in 2019. has long been a global leader on this issue, having legalized same-sex marriage in 2005. 🎥✨ Taiwan’s collective memory shines brightly on the world stage once again!
The digitally restored classic The Dull-Ice Flower receives rave reception at its world premiere.

This beloved tearjerker movie has been selected for the 2026 Cannes Film Festival “ ” section. After the screening, the audience gave a long standing ovation, many wiping away tears. 🥹

In 1989, just two years after the lifting of martial law, Taiwan was in an era of rediscovering its cultural identity. The film is adapted from the first full-length novel by literary master Chung Chao-cheng. Through nativist literature, he delivered a profound critique of society at the time.

🪻“魯冰花” ( ) is a green manure plant commonly grown in Taiwanese tea gardens in the past. No matter how beautifully it blooms, it is eventually plowed into the soil to become fertilizer — just like the fate of the protagonist.

From the deeply touching story and the child actors’ remarkably mature performances, to the masterful cinematography, the film left a strong impression on international audiences. This is not only the rebirth of a film, but also a beautiful showcase of culture and emotion on the global stage. 🙌🏼

writer Yang Shuang-zi’s novel Taiwan Travelogue, translated by Lin King, has won the International Booker Prize! This victory sets multiple new historical records. 🥂🍾
