Viking Fire & Rescue extends our heartfelt thoughts and deepest sympathies to the families and everyone affected by the recent incident in Wainwright.

We recognize the emotional impact an incident like this has on families, friends, first responders, and the entire community. Our thoughts are with those who are hurting, those who are waiting for answers, and everyone affected by this difficult situation.

We also want to acknowledge and recognize the members of National Defence, First Responders, and Wainwright and area emergency services who responded to the incident. Thank you for your dedication, professionalism, and commitment to serving and protecting others during difficult and challenging circumstances.

In times like these, we are reminded of the strength of our communities and the importance of standing together to support one another.

Wait, what no pancakes?!
Yes this year a pancake breakfast didn't work out for us with some of our firefighters undergoing training courses. We love to have the public come into the hall so please join us this Friday for a Burger/pop and chips for the cost of a donation to our fire department.

Come met the firefighters in your community, check out the equipment and take some time to learn about fire safety!

Drivers, please take extra care during the busy morning and afternoon school commute. A few extra seconds of patience can make a big difference.

Parents and caregivers, now is a great time to review safe routes, crosswalks, and bus safety with your children.

🚒 Join Viking Fire & Rescue – Become a Volunteer Firefighter!

Could you answer the call?

Viking Fire & Rescue is currently recruiting a few dedicated volunteers to fill openings on our team. If you're looking for a meaningful way to give back to your community, this is your opportunity.

Volunteer firefighters are ordinary people who do extraordinary things. We respond to fires, motor vehicle collisions, medical emergencies, rescues, hazardous materials incidents, and many other emergencies throughout our community.

What We Offer

🔥 Professional Training
No previous firefighting experience is required. We provide the training you need, including:

Firefighter recruit training
First Aid & CPR
WHMIS
Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG)
Emergency response and rescue training
Ongoing skills development and certification opportunities

The knowledge and skills you gain will not only help protect your community but will benefit you in everyday life.

💪 Challenge & Personal Growth
Every call is different. Firefighting offers rewarding challenges that build confidence, teamwork, leadership, and lifelong friendships. Few experiences compare to helping someone on what may be the worst day of their life.

We are your neighbours, coworkers, friends, and family members. Our firefighters come from all walks of life, united by a commitment to serving the people of Viking and the surrounding area.

What We're Looking For
Commitment

Emergencies happen 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Members are expected to respond to emergency calls whenever they are available.

Training Participation
Regular training is held every Tuesday evening.
New recruits attend orientation and recruit training.
Members are expected to attend a required number of annual training sessions, unless exceptional circumstances apply.
Weekend courses are offered throughout the year and are scheduled well in advance.
Good Physical & Mental Health

Firefighting is physically and mentally demanding. Applicants must be capable of performing basic firefighting duties.

Clean Criminal Record

A satisfactory RCMP Criminal Record Check is required during the recruit process.

Driver's Licence

A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's Licence is required. A Class 3 Licence with Air Brake (Q) Endorsement is considered an asset. A driver's abstract is also required.

📢 BBQ Event Cancelled

Due to the ongoing emergency situation and flooding impacts throughout the County, the BBQ scheduled for this Saturday at the Viking Fire Hall has been cancelled.

The safety of our residents, volunteers, and staff remains our top priority during this time. We appreciate your understanding and support as our community focuses on responding to the current situation.

Thank you to everyone who was planning to attend. Updates regarding any future rescheduling will be shared when available.
