MBiz Speaker Series: The State of Post-Secondary Education

Manitoba's long-term economic success depends on one critical asset: people. As employers across the province continue to face workforce shortages and evolving skills needs, the role of Manitoba's post-secondary institutions has never been more important.

Join the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce for a timely discussion with Dr. Michael Benarroch, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Manitoba, and Fred Meier, President and CEO of RRC Polytech. As Co-Chairs of the Manitoba Post-Secondary Presidents' Council, they will explore how Manitoba's universities and colleges are preparing the province's future workforce, driving research and innovation, and supporting the industries that will shape our economy.

Hear directly from the leaders helping build Manitoba's talent pipeline and discover why stronger partnerships between business and post-secondary education are essential to the province's long-term competitiveness.

MCC Celebrates 95 Years as the Voice of Business in Manitoba

A little rain wasn't enough to stop a great night at the ballpark. MCC members and guests gathered at the Winnipeg Goldeyes game to celebrate summer, connect with fellow business leaders, and mark MCC's 95th anniversary.

The evening also included recognition of Scott Oake as he approaches retirement following an extraordinary broadcasting career. With clear skies arriving just in time and fireworks lighting up the night after the final out, it was a memorable celebration of community, connection, and Manitoba pride.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the game, and to the Winnipeg Goldeyes team for their hard work getting the field ready again after the rain.

The Manitoba Chambers of Commerce held another successful MBiz Breakfast this morning featuring a conversation on Manitoba’s economic future with Premier Wab Kinew.

The theme of the morning was clear: Manitoba’s future success will be shaped by the choices we make today. From addressing youth unemployment and creating pathways for young people to enter the workforce, to accelerating opportunities in mining, achieving the vision for Churchill, and maintaining positive relationships with our trading partners, collaboration across business, government, and communities will be essential.

Premier Kinew’s remarks also emphasized the importance of investing in Manitoba’s youth, expanding our skilled workforce, and positioning the province to make strides in energy and mineral production, all of which will contribute to the overarching goal of making Manitoba a have province.

As the MCC event season ends, we’re grateful to everyone who joined us for these important conversations about Manitoba’s future and the role each of us can play in building it.

A special thank you to our MBiz Breakfast sponsors for their support at this event: Town of Niverville, Manitoba Pork, Miller Environmental, CPHR Manitoba, Travel Manitoba, Manitoba Egg Farmers, World Trade Centre Winnipeg, and the Free Press.

The Summer Edition of MBiz Magazine is Now Available!

Manitoba’s economic outlook is increasingly shaped by one defining factor: people.

Across the province, businesses are navigating labour shortages, evolving workforce demands, and growing competition for talent, while workers adapt to a labour market changing faster than ever before.

The latest edition of MBiz Magazine explores the workforce challenges and opportunities shaping Manitoba’s future economy. From recruitment pressures and skills shortages to workforce participation and training, this issue examines how Manitoba can better engage young people, upskill workers for high-demand industries, and strengthen partnerships between industry, educational institutions, and communities.

Inside this edition:
- labour shortages and talent attraction,
- skills development and training,
- immigration and workforce participation,
- childcare and economic growth,
- and partnerships that are increasing opportunities – and success – for students in northern and remote communities.

As Manitoba businesses continue to identify workforce challenges as one of their top areas of concern, the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce will continue to explore the ideas, partnerships, and strategies that can strengthen Manitoba’s workforce, support economic growth, and position our province for long-term success.
