Move More Monday: Move Together

Movement is more fun with company!

Being active doesn’t always have to mean setting aside time for a workout. Sometimes it’s as simple as getting outside with family or friends and doing something everyone enjoys.

🥏 Toss a frisbee
⛳ Play a round of mini golf
🛝 Head to the playground
🚶 Go for an evening walk
🏸 Start a backyard game

Moving together can make activity feel less like something on your to-do list and more like time spent with the people you enjoy. Having someone join you can also provide that little extra motivation to get started and keep going.

This week’s challenge: Spend 30 active minutes with family or friends.

Walk. Play. Explore. Laugh. Just find something that gets everyone moving. 💚

How will you move together this week?

National Relaxation Day feels like the perfect way to begin a slower and a gentler weekend.

Taking time to relax gives your body and mind an opportunity to recover from the demands of the week. It can help ease feelings of tension, support better sleep and leave you feeling more refreshed for the days ahead.

Rest doesn’t always have to mean doing nothing. It might look like:

☕ Enjoying your morning without rushing
📖 Spending quiet time with a good book
🌳 Taking an easy walk outside
📵 Stepping away from your screens
🧘 Gently stretching

However you choose to recharge, give yourself permission to move at a more comfortable pace this weekend.

What helps you slow down and relax?

Fun Fact Friday: What Makes a Joint “Pop”?
That familiar popping sound often comes from a rapid pressure change within the fluid surrounding a joint, not from your bones cracking.

Other clicks and snaps may happen as tendons or surrounding tissues move around a joint. And it isn’t only knuckles that make noise - shoulders, knees, ankles, hips and the spine can all pop, click or crack.

Joint sounds are common and don’t automatically mean something is wrong, especially when there is no pain or change in movement.

But if a sound is accompanied by pain, swelling, locking, instability or restricted movement, it’s worth having assessed.

Chiropractors assess joints throughout the body to help determine what may be contributing to pain, stiffness or restricted movement.

Tech neck isn’t just about your neck.

Phones and tablets can draw us into the same position for longer than we realize. After a long stretch of screen time, you may notice neck or shoulder tension, upper-back stiffness, headaches, or tired eyes.

The answer isn’t finding one “perfect” posture, it’s giving your body more variety.

Try bringing your screen closer to eye level, supporting your arms, changing positions regularly, and taking short breaks to move your neck and shoulders.

If discomfort persists, worsens, or interferes with your day, a chiropractor can assess what may be contributing and discuss appropriate care.

Your screen may be smart, but your body still needs a break!

Move More Monday: Explore Somewhere New

Your next adventure might be closer than you think!

Trading your usual route for a local trail is a great way to add a little variety to your movement. Hills, roots, rocks, grass and other changing surfaces can challenge your balance, coordination and stability as you explore.

And Manitoba has plenty of places to get started. 🌲

Here in Manitoba, we have plenty of opportunities to explore , from provincial parks and urban forests to trails just outside our communities.

🥾 This week’s challenge: Explore one trail you’ve never visited before.

Choose a route that suits your ability, bring some water and enjoy where the trail takes you.

💬 What Manitoba trail would you recommend?

Fishing may be a relaxing way to spend a summer Saturday, but casting, reeling, carrying gear and sitting in the boat for hours can still put your body to work. 🎣

Before you head onto the water, take a few minutes to loosen up—especially after a long drive. Change positions throughout the day and use steady, controlled movements when lifting gear, landing a fish or loading the boat back onto the trailer.

A little preparation can help you enjoy more time on the water and feel better when you’re back on shore.

💬 Where’s your favourite Manitoba fishing spot?

Fun Fact Friday: Your Muscles Work as a Team 💪

Even simple movements require several muscles to work together.

When you lift a grocery bag, climb the stairs or reach overhead, some muscles create the movement while others stabilize and support your body.

Movement depends on your muscles, joints and nervous system working together to help you move with balance and control.

Chiropractors assess how your muscles and joints work together. When pain, stiffness or injury affects one area, it can influence how the rest of your body moves.

Wellness Wednesday

🌈 How many colours can you crunch?

August is bursting with fresh Manitoba produce—from tomatoes and corn to leafy greens, carrots, berries, and beets.

Eating a variety of colourful fruits and vegetables provides nutrients that help support healthy muscles and bones, energy for everyday activities, recovery after being active, and overall well-being.

This week, take the rainbow challenge: add a few different colours to your plate or try one locally grown fruit or vegetable that’s new to you.

💬 What Manitoba-grown fruit or vegetable is always on your summer plate?

Move More Monday: Every Step Counts ❤️

This long weekend, take a walk - not because you have to, but because you can.

Terry Fox showed Canadians that every step can make a difference. His courage, determination, and hope continue to inspire people across the country.

Whether you're walking around your neighbourhood, exploring a Manitoba trail, or enjoying time at the lake with family and friends, getting outside is a simple way to celebrate the spirit of Terry Fox Day.

This week's challenge: Take a 20–30 minute walk and invite someone to join you.

At the Manitoba Chiropractors Association, we're passionate about helping Manitobans enjoy healthy, active lives. Feeling comfortable moving makes it easier to enjoy walks, hikes, and everyday activities throughout every season.

Where will your walk take you this long weekend?

Sunday Slow Down: Leave a Little Room in the Weekend

Long weekends can quickly become long to-do lists.

The errands.
The yard work.
The plans.
The pressure to make the most of every minute.

But an open afternoon doesn’t need to be filled.

Take the slow route. Linger over your coffee. Sit outside without an agenda. Let the day unfold at its own pace.

Sometimes, making the most of a long weekend means leaving a little room in it.

What are you making time for—or intentionally not making time for—this long weekend?
