Today, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation honours Survivors and recognizes the families and communities who continue to experience the profound and intergenerational impacts of colonial systems that are still being dismantled.

This is a day to reflect. As we honour Survivors, their families, and their cultures, we must also take time to listen to truths and difficulties within them. This work lives not in a single day, but in our everyday actions, in how we treat one another, how we care for patients, how we create culturally safe spaces, and how speak up and be part of the change.

Shared Health and Prairie Mountain Health are pleased to share that the new Shared Health Diagnostic Services Mobile CT is now officially operational at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre (DRHC).

Elective patients are now being seen at DRHC. CT services for Emergency Department patients will become available in the coming weeks.

All CT appointments require a referral and must be pre-booked. Please speak with your health provider if you require a CT appointment at DRHC.

As appointment space becomes available at DRHC, patients who are currently scheduled for CT scans at other locations may be moved to Dauphin. Every effort will be made to schedule these patients as close as possible to their original appointment date while ensuring that the priority level of each patient’s diagnostic need is maintained.

The return of CT services to Dauphin is part of our ongoing commitment to supporting the diagnostic needs of patients and families in the community and ensuring access to important health services closer to home.

Today is World Heart Day. In Manitoba, 3,000 people are diagnosed with a heart attack each year. To mark World Heart Day, Shared Health is featuring a profile of Van Ngo, a cardiology technologist who works at St. Boniface Hospital. Ngo supports the cardiology department by providing vital testing to support patient heart health.

September 30 is a day for reflection, but reconciliation is something we must work toward every day. Let us reflect how we can move beyond awareness and into meaningful action at a Sacred Fire in honour of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, tomorrow morning from 7 to 11 am in the green space at the corner of McDermot & Sherbrook.

There will also be hoop dancing and drumming at 11 am in the William Avenue Mall at HSC_Winnipeg.

We will also be joining with the University of Manitoba and Ongomiizwin - Indigenous Institute of Health and Healing for a community walk, meeting at 12:40 pm at the Bannatyne Campus (745 Bannatyne Avenue entrance).

At Shared Health, we are committed to ensuring everyone feels safe, respected, and supported.

There is no wrong door—multiple informal and formal pathways are available. The Disrupting Racism SPEAKUP process is one informal option. The purpose of the SPEAKUP process is to provide a dedicated space to safely share and disclose experiences of racism or discrimination, whether experienced personally or witnessed. All concerns are handled with care and used to make our organization safer and more inclusive for everyone.

First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples face real and lasting health gaps related to historic and current experiences and institutions grounded in colonialism and racism. Efforts to disrupt racism across Manitoba must include real and meaningful responses to Indigenous-specific racism and the pursuit of healing and reconciliation.

Developed by Ongomiizwin Indigenous Institute of Health and Healing at Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, in partnership with Manitoba’s health regions, training is available to help Manitoba health care workers implement daily practices that support the provision of culturally safe and anti-racist care.
