This funding opportunity supports First Nations, Inuit, and Métis community-led research projects that address urgent health and wellbeing challenges related to emergencies and disasters across Canada.

✅ Up to $20,000 per project
✅ Projects must be completed within 4 months of funding
✅ Application deadline: December 1, 2026 (or when funds are exhausted)

We welcome projects focused on issues such as environmental displacement, emergency preparedness, environmental health, community safety, the toxic drug crisis, and other emergency-related health and wellbeing priorities affecting communities.

With treatment, HIV is a manageable chronic condition. HIV+ people on treatment can live long, healthy lives and treatment can make you unable to sexually transmit HIV.

Get tested, know your status. Routine testing every five years is recommended for everyone, age 12-70, and more often for certain groups. Talk to your doctor if you haven’t been tested in a while.

From winning the Amazing Race Canada to rebuilding the Nehiyô medical system – Dr James Makokis brings a kōrero like no other to Tuurangawaewae this November.

We are honoured to announce Dr James Makokis as a keynote speaker for WISPC 2026.

Dr Makokis is a Nehiyô two-spirit physician from Onihcikiskapowinihk (Saddle Lake Cree Nation) in Treaty Six Territory. He is the Interim Associate Dean of Indigenous Resurgence in Medicine and Wellness at Toronto Metropolitan University's School of Medicine, and the Inaugural Research Chair in Pimâtisiwin, Medicine and Health Systems Resurgence at Anishnawbe Health Toronto. As the inaugural Medical Director of Shkaabe Makwa at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, he helped lead systems transformation in Indigenous mental health across Canada.

At WISPC 2026, Dr Makokis brings a rare combination of clinical practice, gender affirming care for the two-spirit community, and the revitalisation of Indigenous medical systems – knowledge that speaks directly to this kaupapa of healing grounded in culture and identity.
