Сьогодні у Посольстві України в Республіці Кіпр відбулася зустріч представників Посольства з представниками Фонду Ріната Ахметова та ГО «Серце Азовсталі», які наразі перебувають на Кіпрі з візитом.

У зустрічі взяли участь Світлана Березіна — керівниця міжнародного підрозділу Фонду Ріната Ахметова, Тетяна Мальцева — директорка ГО «Серце Азовсталі», та Наталія Шевченко — кураторка напряму посттравматичного зростання ГО «Серце Азовсталі».

Під час зустрічі обговорили діяльність Фонду та ГО «Серце Азовсталі», спрямовану на підтримку українців, які постраждали внаслідок російської агресії, зокрема:

🔹 підтримку цивільного населення України під час війни;
🔹 гуманітарну допомогу;
🔹 програми реабілітації та психологічної підтримки дітей;
🔹 допомогу ветеранам та їхнім родинам;
🔹 реалізацію програм посттравматичного зростання;
🔹 реабілітацію ветеранів після полону;
🔹 проєкти для української молоді.

Окрему увагу приділили програмам, спрямованим на відновлення ветеранів після пережитого полону та травматичного досвіду, повернення до повноцінного життя, зміцнення психологічної стійкості та формування нових можливостей для розвитку.

Today, the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Cyprus hosted a meeting between representatives of the Embassy and representatives of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation and the “Heart of Azovstal” NGO, who are currently visiting Cyprus.

The meeting was attended by Svitlana Berezina, Head of the International Department of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation; Tetiana Maltseva, Director of the “Heart of Azovstal” NGO; and Natalia Shevchenko, Coordinator of the Post-Traumatic Growth Programme at the “Heart of Azovstal” NGO.

The participants discussed the activities of the Foundation and the “Heart of Azovstal” NGO aimed at supporting Ukrainians affected by Russia’s aggression, including:

🔹 support for Ukraine’s civilian population during the war;
🔹 humanitarian assistance;
🔹 rehabilitation and psychological support programmes for children;
🔹 assistance to veterans and their families;
🔹 implementation of post-traumatic growth programmes;
🔹 rehabilitation of veterans following captivity;
🔹 projects for Ukrainian youth.

Particular attention was paid to programmes aimed at supporting veterans in their recovery following captivity and traumatic experiences, helping them return to a fulfilling life, strengthening psychological resilience, and creating new opportunities for personal development.

Cossack Mamay, Unknown artist, 18th century

From the late 1600s to the present day, Cossack Mamay has remained one of the most persistent archetypes in Ukrainian folk art. The image of a melancholic Cossack usually features a kobza, which is a lute-like musical instrument; a horse representing freedom; and an oak tree with his weapons hanging on it. Often, the paintings would include a spear crowned with a flag, a traditional Cossack cap, and a liquor glass. These were the items related to the life and death of a Cossack—a spear was placed at his burial site, while a pipe and a glass were laid in his grave. Paintings of Cossack Mamay were common in both peasant and noble homes across Ukraine. Mamay symbolizes freedom and strength, reflecting the Cossacks' legacy as the primary defenders of Ukrainian lands and the architects of their own independent state.

Just hours after the US President’s peace envoys left Kyiv, Russia launched another large-scale attack on Ukraine's capital and several other regions of Ukraine.

The strikes on Kyiv killed at least two people and injured at least ten others. The capital suffered significant damage to residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure.

Critical infrastructure was hit in Kyiv region, while in Odesa region, Russia struck an ordinary market. Two people were injured in Kharkiv, where an apartment building was damaged. In Sumy region, a railway locomotive was attacked at a station this morning. Zaporizhzhia and Dnipro regions also came under attack.

Ukrainian defenders destroyed 175 aerial targets overnight, but not all threats could be stopped. Ballistic missiles remain particularly difficult to intercept. Ukraine continues to raise the urgent need for more interceptors with our American and European partners.

Further meetings are taking place today with countries and companies that can help strengthen Ukraine’s air defence and support our FREYJA anti-ballistic system.

Peresopnytsia Gospel, 1556-1561

Peresopnytsia Gospel stands as a primary symbol of Ukrainian independence. Crafted in the 16th century, it is one of the earliest manuscripts written in Ruthenian (Old Ukrainian). The Peresopnytsia Gospel contains the four Gospels of the New Testament. It is ornamented with Cyrillic characters influenced by the Italian Renaissance style, with the icons in the Byzantine style, which is common for Ukrainian iconography. The Gospel was compiled between 1556 and 1561 at the Bernardine Monastery in Iziaslav, in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and at the Monastery of the Mother of God in Peresopnytsia (now in Ukraine). Since 1991, it has served as the official oath-taking book for all Ukrainian presidents.

7 вересня перший секретар Посольства України в Республіці Кіпр Марко Скраль відвідав свято Першого дзвоника в українському освітньому просторі «Крила».

Під час урочистостей М. Скраль виступив із вітальною промовою привітавши школярів, їхніх батьків та педагогічний колектив з початком нового навчального року.

Для українських дітей, які сьогодні зростають далеко від Батьківщини, українська школа — це значно більше, ніж місце здобуття знань. Це простір, де звучить українське слово, зберігаються культура і традиції, формуються дружба та відчуття єдності з Україною.

Посольство України високо цінує працю педагогів та батьків, які щодня допомагають дітям зберігати зв’язок із рідною країною, її мовою та культурою.

Reply of the Zaporizhzhian Cossacks, Illia Repin, 1880-1891

Master of realist art, Illia Repin (1844-1930) was born into a Cossack family in Chuhuiv, Kharkiv region, Ukraine. For his most renowned painting, alternatively known as Cossacks Writing a Letter to the Turkish Sultan, he undertook a six-month journey across Ukraine in 1880. He visited sites of historical Cossack significance, primarily within the Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Poltava, Dnipro, and Zaporizhzhia regions. Legend holds that in 1676, Kosh Ataman Ivan Sirko and “all the Zaporizhzhian Kosh” wrote a defiant letter in response to an ultimatum from Ottoman Sultan Mekhmed (Muhammad) IV. While travelling through Ukraine, Repin would sketch houses, clothing, weapons, folk art, and architecture. The Cossacks he portrayed in this realist masterpiece were also actual Ukrainian historical figures of the era—historians, writers, and governors. The image was widely adopted by many naive artists who essentially embedded it into folk art.

Red Sunset, Arkhyp Kuindzhi, 1905-1908

Born into a Greek family in Mariupol, Ukraine, Arkhyp Kuindzhi (1841-1910) became world-famous for his landscapes of the Ukrainian steppe. He studied at the St. Petersburg Imperial Art Academy, but he spent most of his life back home in Ukraine, living in places like Mariupol and Crimea. Red Sunset, or Red Sunset over the Dnipro River, is now in the Metropolitan Museum's collection. Dnipro is Ukraine's principal river, effectively bisecting the country from the north to the Black Sea. The painting’s sketch was held at the Kuindzhi Museum in Mariupol until the full-scale Russian invasion in February 2022. The city was besieged for a couple of months, and eventually, the Russian army destroyed the museum. Following the occupation, the surviving painting, Red Sunset, was looted by occupation forces. Its current location remains unknown.
