Day 2 and final day at the Maritime Security and Defence (MS&D) Conference in Hamburg. Discussions take a deep dive into the IT, cyber and space aspects of maritime security, and multi domain connectivity, and new developments to modernize security systems.

Ambassador Maria Teresa Almojuela and Third Secretary Dana Del Rosario listen to defense and industry experts discuss modern threats, and technology solutions to make the maritime industry - from the ports and supply chains - more resilient.

The maritime industry fair, one of the biggest in the world, offers a panoramic view of what these new systems and capability upgrades look like.

For the Philippines, an archipelago of over 7,000 islands with one of the longest coastlines in the world, these are not abstract ideas. These have practical practical consequence on seafarers, our fisherfolk and coastal communities, and our economy and foreign policy.

Ambassador Maria Teresa T. Almojuela and Third Secretary Dana Del Rosario are in Hamburg today for the Maritime Security and Defence (MS&D) Conference. We take part in two days of incisive conversations on Europeโ€™s strategic policy and technology capabilities to deal with maritime security challenges in the region and beyond. We listen to different perspectives on institutional responses and public-industry partnerships to reinforce maritime domain awareness and defense capabilities and to keep our seas โ€”on the surface and underwater โ€” safe and secure, in a rapidly changing world.

The Philippines is invested in conversations to keep the maritime domain peaceful and in order: to keep global trade going,
ships and seafarers safe,
economies growing and
nations prospering - in mutual respect and in adherence to international law.

The conference is part of the 2026 Shipbuilding Machinery and Marine Technology Trade Fair (SMM), the biggest trade show for the global maritime industry taking place every two years in the City of Hamburg.

Ambassador Maria Teresa Almojuela and fellow ASEAN Ambassadors made a pitch for scaled-up German investment in the region at โ€œGermany meets ASEAN in Berlinโ€ Dialogue Forum last evening. The forum, jointly organized by the German Global Trade Forum Berlin and International Club Berlin, gathered an audience of 70 representing government and business. Discussions pointed to a mutual interest to grow partnerships across diverse economic sectors.

Ambassador Almojuela cited the scale of potential of the ASEANโ€™s dynamic and integrated market, as well as the compelling case for PH to serve as Germany's gateway to Southeast Asia: from the upcoming PH-EU FTA to the Pax Silicaโ€™s rising AI-native industrial hub and a young, English-speaking workforce. With a combined GDP of US$3.9T and 680M-strong population, ASEAN is projected to be the 4th largest economy by 2030.

Ambassador Almojuela emphasized the determination of the Philippines as 2026 ASEAN Chair and founding member to help forge greater economic integration, connectivity, resilience, and sustainability in the region.
