The Annual Safety Review 2026 is now available, providing a comprehensive overview of aviation across Europe, analysing accidents, serious incidents and key safety risks in 2025 against the previous 10 years.

The findings show that, in almost all aviation domains, the number of fatal accidents and fatalities remained at or below the 10-year average. However, differences across operational areas highlight the importance of continued vigilance and targeted safety action.

New this year: For the first time, the review is accompanied by a concise, six-page summary highlighting key figures and leading safety risks across commercial air transport, rotorcraft and general aviation.

More than 100 participants joined us at HQ on 20–21 October for the Helicopter Flight Test Workshop, bringing together experts from industry, National Aviation Authorities, military organisations, universities and flight test schools.

Returning for the first time in two years, the workshop focused on the practical challenges of helicopter certification flight testing and how we can work together to make the process more effective and consistent.

The discussions covered everything from Level of Involvement (LOI) and Design Organisation Approval (DOA) performance to technical challenges involving firefighting installations, ice and snow qualification, night vision systems, human factors, RNP 0.1 AR operations and take-off performance for CS-27 helicopters.

With contributions from EASA specialists and external experts, the two days provided an opportunity to share real-world experience, explore technical challenges and develop a better common understanding of certification requirements.

A big thank you to everyone who presented, participated and contributed to the discussions! Bringing together different perspectives and experiences is an important part of making helicopter certification safer, more effective and more consistent across the aviation community.

The 3rd ICAO/EASA Global RSOO/RAIO Forum took place in Georgetown, Guyana, on 29–30 September 2026, bringing together States, Regional Safety Oversight Organisations (RSOOs), Regional Accident and Incident Investigation Organisations (RAIOs), industry and international partners.

Discussions focused on harmonisation, delegation of safety functions, assessment and stronger partnerships to support States in delivering effective aviation safety oversight and accident investigation.

contributed its expertise and experience, with Krzysztof Kędzierski joining a panel on common and harmonised frameworks and tools, and Lorenzo Pellegrini contributing to discussions on the delegation of tasks and functions to RSOOs and delivering the Forum’s closing remarks.

The Forum provided an important opportunity to share best practices, strengthen regional cooperation and advance the implementation of ICAO - International Civil Aviation Organization’s evolving framework for assessing and supporting regional organisations.

There is still a lot of stigma around mental health, but for it’s clear: mental health is part of .

Mental health can be harder to assess than physical health because the signs are often less visible. Our approach is increasingly focused on prevention. Beyond the applicable medical examinations, a culture of transparency and openness and trust around mental health can make a real difference, making aviation professionals feel able to speak up and seek support early.

EASA knows that more can be done and we continue to advance the discussion on mental health in aviation. In recent years, the Agency conducted a research project on Mental Health – MESAFE – to assess new medical developments for the early diagnosis and treatment of mental health conditions for pilots and air traffic controllers: https://www.easa.europa.eu/en/research-projects/mesafe-mental-health

Building on this work, we then launched a rulemaking group to further examine mental health provisions in aviation.

Ahead of the World Health Organization (WHO)’s , EASA reaffirms its commitment to improve the understanding of mental health and its connection to aviation safety.
