Europe’s aviation future was on full display at Airspace World in Lisbon this week, where nine European institutions came together under the Europe for Aviation (E4A) initiative to showcase a shared vision for a more modern, integrated and competitive European air traffic management system.

received strong interest and engagement from industry stakeholders across the aviation innovation and regulatory landscape. The event highlighted the growing momentum behind collaboration and innovation within the ATM/ANS ecosystem throughout the three days.

Key topics that generated strong interest included:
➡️ Conformity Assessment of Ground Equipment (CAGE)
Companies actively sought guidance on becoming recognised design and production organisations, as well as understanding the pathway toward ATM ground equipment product attestation.
➡️ Drone & U-space Operations
The continued expansion of unmanned aviation was evident, with growing attention on operational integration and regulatory frameworks.
➡️ Information Security & Cybersecurity
Stakeholders showed strong interest in new Part-IS requirements and the evolving cybersecurity expectations for aviation systems and operations.

EASA experts (Francesco Gaetani I Cyrille Rosay I Athanassios Tziolas I Manuel Rivas Vila I Richard Amy I Maria Algar Ruiz I Anne Sénéchal I Stéphane Vaubourg) participated in 8 panel discussions, and were involved in around 50 dedicated meetings with organisations and numerous ad-hoc discussions throughout the event.

once again proved to be a valuable platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange and shaping the future of European aviation together.

Many pilots across Europe are about to reach an important milestone. The first drone competency certificates issued when the European drone rules entered into force in 2020 and 2021 are now approaching their 5-year validity limit.

That means many remote pilots will soon need to either:
✔️ Revalidate their certificate before expiry
or
✔️ Renew it after expiry with a new examination process.

With more than 1.7 million A1/A3 certificates and nearly 300,000 A2 certificates issued under the European framework, this will affect a significant part of the drone community.

To help operators and pilots better understand the rules, has published a new overview page on drone operator registration, authorisations and pilot competency.

Staying current is not just about compliance. It helps ensure that drone pilots remain familiar with evolving procedures, airspace requirements and operational responsibilities.

and EUROCONTROL, together with industry stakeholders, have developed two new Electronic Conspicuity (EC) use cases to enhance traffic awareness for pilots and facilitate integration of drones in shared airspace

The work focuses on:
➡️ Air-to-air EC for improved pilot situational awareness and conflict prevention
➡️ EC in U-space environments without ATC, enabling safer interaction between manned aircraft and drones

This joint initiative supports a harmonised approach with affordable, interoperable solutions that enhance safety for both manned and unmanned aviation.

Electronic Conspicuity continues to play a key role in reducing mid-air collision risks and enabling the future of integrated airspace operations across Europe.
