Honoring Our Heroes: Memorial Day Wreath-Laying Ceremony at Sea🇺🇸🇫🇲
Today, a solemn wreath-laying ceremony took place at sea near Dekehtik to commemorate Memorial Day, honoring the brave women and men who sacrificed their lives in service to our country.
The ceremony began with an invocation by Reverend Martin Peter, then featured a heartfelt tribute from U.S. Ambassador Jennifer Johnson. Five wreaths were laid at sea representing the United States, FSM National, FSM States, the military, and families. Ambassador Johnson, Deputy of the Office of Veteran’s Affairs Maxon Tom, Pohnpei State Chief of Staff Patterson Shed, U.S. Marine Corps Lt Col Jake Grader, and Maryn and Nola Ryan laid the wreaths in memory of the fallen heroes. Their participation symbolized the deep respect and gratitude we hold for those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Attendees included Gold Star Family Members, U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission Vincent Mut-Tracy, Australian Ambassador Jenny Grant, Pohnpei Senator Ricky Carl, members of the U.S Veterans of Pohnpei Association, U.S. Embassy staff, FSM Maritime Wing, and FSM government representatives. This gathering highlights the enduring partnership between the United States and the FSM, built on shared values and the ongoing service of FSM citizens in the U.S. military.
Ambassador Johnson emphasized this commitment, stating, “Memorial Day is a time of remembrance, gratitude, and reflection on the sacrifices made to protect freedom, peace, and the values we hold dear. We remember not only their courage on the battlefield, but also the families and loved ones who carry their memory forward each day. Their service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.”
Many thanks to everyone who helped make this Memorial Day meaningful!
