📚 Rotary Bolton Lever Supporting Children’s Literacy ❤️
Did you know that children’s enjoyment of reading is at its lowest level since records began?

Reading is a cornerstone of learning, and supporting children’s literacy is an important part of Rotary’s commitment to Basic Education and Literacy, which clubs highlight every September.

Rotary Bolton Lever were delighted to be able to donate more than 250 children’s books to Johnson Fold Community Primary School, Bolton (part of the Base Academy Trust). 📖

Children will be able to choose a book when they receive the Red Jumper at the school’s Well Done Assembly each Friday. The assembly celebrates the achievements of the children, with one child from each year group receiving a red jumper for something they have done particularly well. 🌟

We were delighted to support this initiative and encourage a love of reading that can last a lifetime. ❤️📚

🌿 The Big Bolton Wildlife Friendly Garden Competition – Results! 🐝
Rotary Bolton Lever are delighted to announce the results of the Big Bolton Wildlife Friendly Garden Competition 2026!

The Community Space Category Winners are:
🥇 1st Place: Ivy Road Community Project
🥈 2nd Place: Gilnow Road green island
🥉 3rd Place: Friends of Queens Park Bolton working with LifeBridge ASEND volunteers

Individual winners in the other categories have also been notified.

🏆 Congratulations to all our winners, and a huge thank you to everyone who took part. Together, we’re helping make Bolton greener and more wildlife-friendly, one space at a time! 🦋🌼

We were delighted by the enthusiasm, creativity and commitment shown by residents and community groups in making Bolton more welcoming to wildlife. A special thank you must go to the RHS Garden Bridgewater team, who kindly judged the competition and donated a prize 🦋

Our sincere thanks also to Heaton Fold Garden Centre for hosting our stalls, to Bolton Garden Centre for very kindly donating a prize and to RH Gill Boscow Nurseries for publicising the competition.

And to everyone who took part - thank you so much for helping support bees, butterflies and other wildlife. We hope you’ll all take part again next year as well as lots of other members of the Bolton community!

25 people along with Past President Christopher, turned up today to commemorate 130 years since the Mass Trespass by 10,000 men over the Bolton Moors. Massive thanks to Tony Greenwood of Woodland Trust - Smithills Estate for the incredibly interesting talks on the way round.

The Mass Trespass aimed to install right of access over the moors for members of the public when Col Ainsworth who owned the land at the time wanted it closed off for his shooting and hunting pursuits. Closing access meant much inconvenience for commuters between Blackburn and Bolton and for locals wanting to enjoy the outdoors.

Thanks to the right of way, it now forms one of the highest points above sea level and incredible views along the Rotary Way Bolton which Rotary Bolton created in 2005.

🏆 A fantastic achievement for Rotary Bolton Lever! 🏆

We are extremely proud that Rotary Bolton Lever was one of only 10 Rotary clubs across North West England and the Isle of Man to be recognised for Outstanding Service in the Community for 2025–2026.

The recognition reflects the tremendous work carried out by the club during the year under the leadership of President Christopher Hill — another great example of Rotary members putting Service Above Self and making a real difference in our community.

The award was presented by District Governor Ian, together with Immediate Past District Governor Edwin, to Immediate Past President Christopher, President Maggs, Executive Secretary Richard and Past President Pat receiving the recognition on behalf of the club’s members.

👏 A huge congratulations to all our Rotary Bolton Lever members who have contributed to such a successful year.

It is wonderful to see the work of our club recognised at District level, and we look forward to continuing to serve and support our community.
