As part of a new initiative, Free Film Friday, Sully Community Cinema will be showing the classic Brief Encounter on Friday, October 24. This moving drama, starring Trevor Howard and Celia Johnson as two married strangers drawn together thanks to a chance meeting at a railway station, will be the first in a series of older movies and matinee favourites to be shown on Friday afternoons at the Old School on South Road. Entrance will be free for each of them, with tea and biscuits available before the film.

Brief Encounter, which was nominated for three Oscars, was directed by the legendary David Lean and based on the play by Noël Coward. It has gone down in history for its emotional portrayal of an intense love affair in restrictive post-war England, and the lovers' relationship has often reduced audience members to tears. Once seen, it is never forgotten.
