Navigating Film Festivals is an industry-led workshop funded by Screen Scotland’s Screen Education Fund. Designed specifically for Scotland’s new filmmaking talent, it bridges the gap between production and professional development.

Diane Henderson will share real life stories, garnered during more than 25 years working in film festivals to empower students to confidently start to plan and execute their own film festival strategy.

Workshops are available to book now with two options available. One for filmmaking students and a second aimed at participants of the Screen Scotland-supported new talent development programmes.

🔎 Here's your first look at new serial killer drama The Dark, starring Laura Donnelly, Mark Rowley and Helen Baxendale.

When the body of a young man is found eerily staged in the idyllic Scottish wilderness, detective Monica Kennedy fears this is just the beginning of a terrifying campaign that will strike the heart of a rural community.

🔪 As paranoia rises, suspicions and secrets are forced into the light, and the locals start to realise that there is a serial killer hidden amongst them.

The Screen Scotland-supported series is adapted for from GR Halliday’s debut novel, From the Shadows, and will be coming to ITV, STV and available for streaming this summer.

Filming has wrapped on Loch nam Madadh/Wolf Bay, a new short-form horror drama co-commissioned by BBC Scotland and BBC ALBA for BBC iPlayer and YouTube: https://pulse.ly/j3d4g6otvz

The series is developed and produced by Storyboard Studios, and supported by Screen Scotland.

The series will join BBC Scotland’s digital first slate, with BBC ALBA’s YouTube platform carrying the bite-sized instalments in full, building digital engagement with Gaelic content.

This adrenaline-filled, off-kilter drama blends dark humour, island identity and slow burn suspense in a uniquely Scottish story about homecomings — the kind you don’t always survive.

Loch nam Madadh/Wolf Bay has been commissioned under the partnership between BBC Scotland and MG ALBA. The agreement seeks to boost new Gaelic talent and build on BBC Scotland’s established and successful digital-first short-form scripted strategy which has produced award-winning dramas such as Float and Dog Days.

The series will debut on BBC iPlayer and the BBC ALBA YouTube channel, with a linear broadcast release scheduled later in the year. Details will be announced in due course.

ICYMI: The Incomer will be opening this year's Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) on 13 August 2026.

The Screen Scotland-supported film, which is the directorial debut of Edinburgh-born filmmaker Louis Paxton, stars Domhnall Gleeson, Gayle Rankin, Grant O’Rourke, John Hannah and Michelle Gomez.

The Incomer is set on a remote Scottish island and follows siblings Isla and Sandy who have lived in peaceful isolation for decades, hunting seabirds, chatting to mythic creatures and defending their isle from dreaded Incomers.

Their world is upended with the arrival of Daniel, an awkward council worker, tasked with uprooting them to the mainland.

EIFF returns this year for its 79th edition, running from 13 - 19 August 2026.

Curious about sustainability in Scotland’s screen industry? CCScotland has launched a new website, Sustainable Screen, which is a comprehensive guide for screen professionals to help reduce their environmental impact and embed greener practices.

Collating knowledge and research with on-the-ground experience and expertise, the website provides a sustainability roadmap for screen industry professionals by offering practical actions tailored to each department, categorised as ‘easy wins’, ‘strong wins’ and ‘game changers’.

The website, which is supported by industry partners including Screen Scotland, also includes dedicated guidance on sourcing sustainable suppliers and information on how productions can gain certification.

📽️ Filming has started in the Western Isles on the second series of the acclaimed, award-winning Gaelic drama An t-Eilean (The Island).

Sorcha Groundsell and Sam James Smith will be returning, and will be joined by new cast members Ava Mackinnon, Owen Sutcliffe, Tanith Munro, Aidan O’Callaghan, Debbie Mackay, Yolanda Mitchell, Jamie Quinn, Roxie Mohebbi and Àdhamh Ó Broin.

Created by Nicholas Osborne and co-written with Mairead Hamilton, the new series features a gripping new mystery filming largely on location in the Western Isles and the mainland.

An t-Eilean series two is funded by MG ALBA, BBC, Screen Scotland, Black Camel Pictures, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar

Screen Scotland is offering Early Years establishments across Scotland the opportunity to apply for a one-day Film and Screen Curriculum Micro Residency with Film and Screen Educator Ian Cameron. Taking place in your setting, a Micro Residency will involve introducing staff and children to Film and Screen activities that reflect the Film and Screen Curriculum.
The deadline to apply is Monday 11 May 2026.

Early Years Practitioners are also invited to apply for the Screen Scotland Early Years Film and Screen Mini Summer School. This is a one-day training opportunity in July at Forth Valley College Stirling Campus, designed to support Early Years Practitioners to deliver the Film and Screen Curriculum in their settings.
The deadline to apply is Monday 1 June 2026.
