Thanks to all for another great evening of poetry, next months theme was picked out of the hat tonight and it’s Rebirth, so we will see what we can write or find. Then again as ever if we spot something unrelated we will read it anyway 😂 Such a fabulous group, see you all in July ❤️

National Literacy Trust Yorkshire Coast do such brilliant work in our area, and this report is really encouraging — it’s great to see reading enjoyment starting to grow again.
At Filey Library, we’re gearing up for a summer packed with reading and events as the Summer Reading Challenge begins next month 📚
Make sure you sign children up — let’s keep the momentum going and inspire a love of reading during the National Year of Reading!

Today, our new research shows that children and young people's enjoyment of reading has risen for the first time in five years🌱

More than a third (36.1%) of children and young people aged 8 to 18 said they enjoyed reading in their free time and 1 in 5 (20.3%) said they read daily in their free time.

And our work in communities like the Yorkshire Coast is making a difference. Children in the schools where we work most intensively were 15% more likely to enjoy reading in their free time and 34% more likely to enjoy reading at school, compared to their peers across England.

Despite these gains, children’s levels of daily reading and reading enjoyment across the UK are still low. With your support, we can keep this momentum going and help more children on the Yorkshire Coast develop the literacy skills they need to thrive.
