OUR MOST RECENT UPDATE FROM NORTH YORKSHIRE COUNCIL ON THE WORK AT ROYAL PARADE.

ANOTHER UPDATE WILL BE DUE SHORTLY.

Project Update - Royal Parade, Filey
Project Number: 25011
Date: 21/08/2026

Progress
Planning permission has been granted (20/08/26) by Area Committee for the demolition and clearance of the Royal Parade building.
This includes the toilet block, Yorkshire Water pumping
station, café and kiosks. Immediate demolition will only occur if further movement of the structure takes place and it is decided that further intervention is not appropriate and there is a risk to the
public.
The application was submitted ahead of a full scheme application as risks were identified relating to oncoming seasons and poor weather, the approval allows us to action demolition if required.

Heras fencing and banners have been installed around the site to improve its appearance.
North Yorkshire Council will continue to inspect and maintain the fencing as needed.

There have been no major incidents with the temporary toilet provision on the site, all minor issues
are being addressed within acceptable timescales.

Wider Project Work
• RIBA Stage 1/Feasibility (the preparation and brief stage) reports have been received and are
being reviewed with clarifications and queries issued to Consultant team.
• Based on Stage 1 information, work is continuing to explore options for the new
development. Consideration is being given to the needs of current and future users of the site and location. The Options are being actively developed internally by officers. We hope to provide updates in the next month.
Temporary Toilets
• There are now 13 toilets available, including one accessible toilet. These have been installed
under permitted development rights.

⚠️ Yellow Weather Warning in Place

As heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast for today, please take extra care if you're travelling.

🚗 Stay safe on the roads:

Never drive through flood water
Reduce your speed
Increase your stopping distance
Be prepared for changing road conditions

Heavy rain can quickly lead to spray, surface water and sudden flooding, making driving conditions difficult and potentially causing road closures.

Before setting out, check your route and allow extra time for your journey. Keep an eye on Office for the latest weather.
