At First People Housing, we believe recovery and progress look different for everyone.

Through our partnership with The Hideout Collective, clients have opportunities to get involved in practical projects that help build confidence, skills, routine and purpose.

In this video, Mark shares his vision for the future of The Hideout Collective and how projects such as Bramble, Jonge Jan and Root & Rise fit into the wider support we provide.

We are proud to be part of the journey.

Support is strongest when organisations work together.

At First People Housing, we provide safe accommodation, support, guidance and stability for people rebuilding their lives.

Through our partnership with The Hideout Collective, many of the people we support can also access practical projects, community activities and opportunities to learn new skills.

Together, we help create pathways that build:

• confidence
• wellbeing
• independence
• practical experience
• social connection

Whether it’s restoring boats, improving community spaces, developing gardening skills through the Root & Rise allotment project, or getting involved in hands-on activities, every opportunity is a chance to grow.

Because lasting change is about more than having a place to live.

It’s about having a future to look forward to.

Meet the Team: Kelly Johnson

Pictured here on her first day with us in April, Kelly has already become a valued member of the team.

Kelly joined First People Housing as a Support and Development Worker, bringing with her a wealth of experience from the British Army, housing, care, administration and customer service sectors.

Over the past few months, she has been learning the ropes, completing training and developing new skills, while building positive relationships with the people we support and becoming an important part of the First People team.

Outside of work, Kelly enjoys keeping active. She is a member of a local running club, has completed multiple half marathons and endurance challenges, and also enjoys swimming.

When asked to describe herself in five words, Kelly chose:

Grounded. Resilient. Active. Compassionate. Dependable.

A little-known fact about Kelly is that her mum, Yvonne, is also part of the First People Housing team 😍👌.

We’re delighted to have Kelly as part of the team and look forward to seeing her continue to grow in her role.

Different roles. One shared purpose.

Behind every positive outcome is a team working together to help men rebuild stability, confidence and independence.

From housing support and tenancy sustainment to property maintenance and operational leadership, every role plays an important part in helping men move forward.

At First People, we know that lasting change doesn’t happen overnight. It happens through safe accommodation, practical support, encouragement and a team that genuinely cares.

This is just some of the team helping to make that happen every day.

💙 Every role matters.
💙 Every conversation matters.
💙 Every person matters.

Who is social housing really for?

As political parties continue to debate housing, immigration and homelessness, it’s easy for the real issues to get lost amongst the headlines.

Our latest blog takes a closer look at how housing policy is increasingly being used as a political battleground, and why more attention should be given to the root causes of homelessness, housing shortages and community need.

Because while politicians argue, thousands of people across the UK are still struggling to find a safe and affordable place to call home.

Meet Dumitru.

Dumitru first came to First People Housing looking for support and opportunities to move forward.

Through First People Housing, he discovered The Hideout Collective and the Root & Rise Allotment Project, where he has become a valued member of the team.

From planting vegetables and caring for seedlings to helping others around the allotment, Dumitru brings enthusiasm, kindness and a willingness to get stuck in.

For him, the project is about more than gardening. It is about purpose, friendship and being part of a community where people support and respect one another.

Thank you for sharing your story with us, Dumitru. 🌱

Meet Mark Davies!

Ask Mark what a typical day at First People Housing looks like and you’ll get a simple answer…

There isn’t one!

From supporting the team and working with partners to helping people rebuild their lives, every day brings something different, and that’s exactly what he enjoys most about the role.

Mark joined First People Housing after years of helping people through hospital discharge services and substance misuse support, bringing a huge amount of experience, passion and positivity to the team.

The only job he’d swap it for?

Playing football for Manchester United! 😂⚽

Take a few minutes to watch Mark’s Meet the Team video and learn more about the person helping drive our services forward every day.
