🚨 There is currently a significant police presence in the Howardsgate area of .

Police were called at 9.34pm yesterday (Friday 26 June), following reports of an altercation involving a group of people outside a restaurant. It is believed that two men, both aged in their 20s, sustained suspected stab wounds, and have been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is currently in police custody.

At this time, we believe this to be an isolated incident and there is no wider threat to the community.

Howardsgate is currently closed, and we ask the public to please avoid the area while officers continue their enquiries.

⚠️ Fraudsters are exploiting social media ads and search engines

A rising number of online fraud offences are occurring through social media accounts Like Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp.

Many of the scams come from advertising on the platforms, offering various goods and services, which either don’t exist or are of poor quality. During the summer the World Cup, Wimbledon, music festivals etc provide plenty of opportunities for fraudsters to target unsuspecting buyers.

In recent months similar scams have been used to lure in online shoppers, using well-known brands like Argos, Netflix and Amazon, as well as leading banks and supermarkets, to trick people into thinking they are seeing a genuine message or ad. Remember, just because an ad is on a trusted channel it doesn’t mean it’s safe, fraudsters can pay to place ads, the same as anyone else. If you see an ad that you believe is a scam, report it to Report Fraud.

It’s always best to be cautious if you receive messages via socials media, email or text message. Don’t click on any links, instead type the official website address of the organisation into a reputable search engine (like Google, Bing, Safari etc.). Always take the time to read the entries on the results page, (don’t just click the top item which can be a sponsored ad and may be fake). Fraudster can sometimes manipulate search engine results, sending you to a fake website or providing fake phone numbers, so make sure the web address looks correct before clicking the link or calling a contact number.

🎥 Could the information you provide today help police find and protect a vulnerable veteran in a crisis tomorrow?

As part of , we’re encouraging members of the armed forces community to register with Safe and Found Online and sign up to the Forcer Protocol.

Earlier this year, the constabulary joined Safe and Found Online, a secure platform that enables people to create a digital profile containing important information that can be accessed by police in an emergency or if they are reported missing.

There are currently two protocols available through Safe and Found Online:
• The Forcer Protocol, designed specifically for serving personnel, veterans and reservists
• The Herbert Protocol, which supports people living with dementia who may be at risk of going missing

The Forcer Protocol was founded by Claire Lilly and named in memory of her late husband, Lance Corporal Alan Forcer, a veteran who suffered from complex PTSD and depression following service in Northern Ireland and Kosovo.

After Alan went missing in May 2020 and tragically took his own life, Claire was determined to create a system that could help prevent similar tragedies. The Forcer Protocol was established to give police immediate access to vital information when a veteran goes missing, helping officers respond quickly, effectively and with compassion during periods of acute mental distress.

Created to ensure that no one who has served our country is left without support when they need it most, the protocol is helping to strengthen safeguarding for veterans, serving personnel, reservists and their families.

🚨 Prolific keyless car thieves jailed 🚨

Two men have been sentenced for stealing 25 high-value vehicles worth over £600,000 across multiple counties.

Aurimas Sarkis (29) and Ignas Kisskiss (36) admitted conspiring to steal cars using specialist equipment to bypass keyless entry systems. Targeting Audi, BMW and Mercedes vehicles, they operated across Hertfordshire and neighbouring counties between October and December 2025.

Following a detailed investigation by our Crime Investigation Department, both appeared at St Albans Crown Court today (24 June):
➡️ Sarkis jailed for 4 years and 1 month
➡️ Kisskiss jailed for 4 years and 10 months

Detectives described the pair as “prolific offenders” who impacted victims across a wide area. Work is now underway to recover assets under Proceeds of Crime legislation.

Detectives in Welwyn Garden City are appealing for witnesses and information following an alleged robbery at Stanborough Lakes on Friday 19 June.

Three males were quickly arrested after the incident and have been released on bail while the investigation continues. However, officers are keen to trace any witnesses who saw the robbery or the males involved.

The offence is reported to have taken place between 9pm and 9.30pm. Two teenage boys aged 15 and 16 years old were walking on a path near where a tree had fallen into the lake on the side with the café, when they were approached by three males, two white teenage boys and an older black man.

The boys were threatened and their bags were taken. The three males then headed off towards Eddington Crescent.

Investigator Frances Aylin said: “We know there were still quite a few people in the area at the time the offence took place, so we are hoping that there will be witnesses to the robbery. One of the suspects was reported to be wearing a balaclava.

⚠️ Beware messages about online bargains

This week millions of people will be online taking advantage of bargains during Amazon ‘Prime Days’, shopping for holidays or maybe buying tickets to events.

Fraudsters are adept at taking advantage of these kinds of opportunities and will be firing off messages to people via email, social media and text offering cut price goods, holidays or tickets.

If you receive suspicious messages with links to deals that seem too good to be true, be wary. Criminals can duplicate legitimate websites, which will often include logos, trademarks and products copied from a genuine store. Many will also use a deceptive website domain (for example, https://orlo.uk/0IqG9), that can be easily mistaken for a genuine domain (https://orlo.uk/OFnZ3).

Don't click on links in messages you receive, instead type the official website address of the organisation into a reputable search engine (like Google, Bing, Safari etc.) and then take time to read the entries on the results page (don’t just click the top item which often is a sponsored ad and may be fake).

If you do make a purchase from a genuine site, use a credit card or an online payment platform like PayPal, Google or Apple. Don’t let your browser, or the retailer website, store your bank details and also enable 2 Factor Authentication (also known as 2 Step Verification) for all your online accounts.
