It’s now easy to donate online to the library service by visiting our website. Those who visit the library are able to do this in person. Now you can also support the library service by donating online. You don't have to donate. Hertfordshire Libraries are a universal and free service to the community. Your decision to donate is an entirely voluntary one. We ask

that you donate only as much as you feel comfortable with. You may want to consider either a one-off payment or more frequently.

We’re exploring the range of books from Hertfordshire Libraries which your child can enjoy this Summer Reading Challenge. Our Non-fiction selection is full of fascinating facts and inspiring heroes.

Why not discover a new hobby or interest together with your child? We’ve got a range of Non-fiction books from dinosaur facts to joke books. Borrow a baking or craft book to enjoy those special summer holiday moments together.

Hitchin Library will be closed for building work from Monday 13 July until Friday 17 July inclusive.

Can you believe that this year’s Summer Reading Challenge starts just 2 weeks from today?

The Reading Agency has partnered with Universal Music Group UK for this year’s fantastic theme, ‘Read to the Beat’🎵

The challenge is designed for children of all ages and all they need to take part is their own library card. If your child isn’t a library member, you can sign them up for free by visiting your local library.

For eager readers, you can reserve books free of charge for children ahead of the challenge. Just visit the Hertfordshire Libraries catalogue or use our app:

Comic Drawing with Mike Collins - 10.30-11.30am
Join comic artist Mike Collins for a hands-on workshop creating your own short comic strip. Learn how to develop ideas, structure panels, and bring characters to life — with something finished to take home and show off. Suitable for ages 8+.

Join us for our unmissable Summer Reads evening and immerse yourself as Hitchin Library is transformed into an Ancient Greek Symposium, inspired by the upcoming Christopher Nolan film, The Odyssey 🏺☀

Staff will be reading their favourite summery literature, from genres including historical fiction, poetry, fantasy, and more…📖

This event is part of the Hitchin Festival, and everyone is welcome whether you are an ancient history lover or not!
