What an amazing start to the Bank Holiday weekend! 🇬🇧

This evening we spent some quality time together as VINT, enjoying a few drinks before heading over to Alishaan Stanningley for an amazing curry.

This was our second monthly social club evening at Alishaan, and it certainly won’t be our last! A huge thank you to the staff who again made us feel incredibly welcome and looked after

It’s fantastic to see our veterans coming together, not only as members of VINT but alongside their partners, friends and loved ones, enjoying a relaxed evening, having a laugh and simply spending time together.

Events like this are about so much more than just food and drinks. Connection, friendship and feeling part of something really do matter, especially when it comes to looking after our mental health and wellbeing.

It was brilliant to see so many smiles, plenty of laughter and a great group of people enjoying each other’s company.

Here’s to many more social evenings together! ❤️

VINT – Veterans In Need Together ❤️🖤

Sometimes it’s hard to explain exactly what VINT is through a social media post, because honestly… VINT is much more than a support group.

VINT – Veterans In Need Together – is a peer-to-peer led mental health support group and community for veterans of all ages. Whether you’ve only just left the Armed Forces, or you’ve been out for 5, 10, 20, 30+ years, there’s a place for you here.

And we really want to make one thing clear…

VINT isn’t just for veterans struggling with combat-related issues.

Life doesn’t stop being difficult just because you’ve left the military.

It can be relationships.
It can be work.
It can be money.
It can be your kids.
It can be loneliness.
It can be stress, anxiety, feeling lost, or simply having one of those days where everything feels a bit too much.

Sometimes you don’t even know what the problem is. You just know you’re not quite yourself.

And that’s okay.

Now, before anyone gets the wrong idea…

VINT isn’t about sitting in a circle holding hands and singing “Kumbaya, my Lord…” 🎶😂

Yes, we’re here to listen.
Yes, we’re here to talk.
Yes, mental health matters.

But VINT is also about community.

It’s about walking into a room full of people who have lived experiences you understand without having to explain every little detail.

It’s about grabbing a cuppa ☕, having a chat, putting the world to rights, sharing stories, having a laugh, making new connections and, sometimes, just being around people who get it.

Because there’s something powerful about being around people who have walked a similar path.

You don’t have to come through the door with a problem.

You don’t have to have served in a war zone.

You don’t have to be at rock bottom.

You don’t even have to know what you need.

Just come as you are.

VINT is a brotherhood.
VINT is a sisterhood.
VINT is a community.

It’s a place where you can find support, friendship, understanding and maybe even a few bloody good laughs along the way. ❤️

Sometimes the biggest step isn’t talking about what’s going on.

Sometimes it’s simply walking through the door.

If you’re a veteran, no matter your age, when you served or what you’re dealing with, VINT is here.

You’re not alone.

Veterans In Need Together.
Together is the important part. 🇬🇧❤️🖤

BEACON UPDATE | FOUND PASSED

It's with profound sadness that we share the following update from Northumbria Police, who have been leading the investigation into missing soldier, Liam.

"A body has sadly been found in the search for missing Northumberland man Liam.
Concerns were raised on Saturday after the 22-year-old had not returned home following a night out with friends. He was last seen at about 12.20am that day, heading into Wylam from Wylam Bridge. Extensive searches have been carried out since and we made the sad find today in the River Tyne close to Wylam Bridge. Formal identification is yet to take place but Liam’s next of kin have been notified and are currently being supported by specially-trained officers. We do not believe there to be any third-party involvement and a report will be prepared for the coroner."

Our thoughts are with Liam's family and friends during this difficult time. Thank you to everyone who shared this alert.

Tonight’s eclipse is a reminder that even when the world around us feels completely dark, the darkness doesn’t last forever.

For some of us, that darkness can feel like more than a moment in the sky. It can feel like isolation, memories we can’t escape, battles nobody else can see, or simply not knowing how to keep going.

If that’s where you are tonight, please remember: you don’t have to face it alone.

Reaching out isn’t weakness. It isn’t failure. It’s having the courage to say, “I’m struggling, and I need someone beside me.”

So if you’re sitting in the dark tonight, reach out. Message a mate. Call someone you trust. Talk to someone who understands. Even if all you can say is, “I’m not doing okay.”

And if someone reaches out to you, listen. You don’t need to have the perfect words or fix everything. Sometimes just staying beside someone in the darkness is enough.

The eclipse will pass. The light will return.
And so can you.

Spot the difference 👀🌱

This weekend, around 15 VINT members, partners and kids came together to kick-start our allotment journey — and what a start it’s been!

That’s 15 people getting out into nature.
15 people making connections with others they may never have met through our other groups.
15 people taking time away from everyday life and enjoying the positive impact that spending time outdoors can have on our mental wellbeing. 🌿

When we were first approached about this project, we never expected quite so many of our members to get involved, let alone bring such incredible enthusiasm and energy with them!

It’s been an amazing weekend filled with laughter, connection, teamwork and plenty of productivity — and there’s already a real sense of excitement about what we can create together.

A huge thank you to every single person who joined us this weekend. You’ve helped make the start of our allotment journey something really special.

We’ve had an absolute blast! ❤️🖤🌱

❤️🖤 You know what we love? A bit of out-of-the-box thinking when it comes to improving the mental health and overall wellbeing of our local veterans.

One thing we’ve found that really helps is getting involved in projects that encourage us to get out of the house, work together, and create something we’re proud of.

We’ve adopted a train station (although, thanks to a bit of red tape, we haven’t been able to do as much there as we’d hoped… it keeps stopping us in our tracks! 🚉😅). We’re also in the process of restoring a local war memorial, and now we’re excited to introduce our latest project…

🌱 Welcome to VINT’s New Allotment! 🌱

When one of our members told us about a vacant allotment next to his that was in need of some TLC, we jumped at the opportunity.

Thanks to everyone who supports us by taking part in our Hook-a-Duck, raffles, and other fundraising events, we’ve been able to use your generous donations to make this project happen. Every ticket you buy helps us create opportunities like this for our veterans.

We all know that getting outside and keeping active is great for both our physical and mental health, but there’s something even more rewarding about spending time on an allotment and literally watching your achievements grow before your eyes.

We’re probably a little late in the season to grow much this year, but that won’t stop us. Over the coming months we’ll be clearing, tidying, and getting everything ready so that when spring arrives, we’ll be ready to get planting.

We can’t wait to get stuck in, share our progress with you all, and hopefully enjoy plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables, and great company along the way. 🌿💚

Thank you for helping us make projects like this possible. Your support really is changing lives.
