Myanmar Unity Movement
On this day, 26 May 2026, we, Myanmar Unity Movement (MUM), as part of the
Myanmar Spring Revolution and on behalf of the people of Myanmar, will be delivering
the following statement.
To the Embassy of the Russian Federation in London,
Today, we stand here peacefully, but we do not stand here silently. We stand here
because the people of Myanmar continue to suffer. We stand here because millions of voices
inside Myanmar cannot be freely heard. And we stand here because when injustice continues,
silence is not an option.
More than five years after the military coup of February 2021, the people of Myanmar
continue to endure violence, instability, displacement, fear, and profound human suffering.
Across the country, communities have been devastated. Families have been torn apart. Children
have lost opportunities for education and a normal future. Millions of people continue to live
with uncertainty, insecurity, and fear. For millions of people in Myanmar, this is not a story in
the news. It is their daily reality. Families continue to live with fear, uncertainty, and the
consequences of conflict. This is not simply a political conflict. This is a crisis that affects
millions of human lives.
Today, we address the Russian Federation because Russia is not merely an observer
of Myanmar's crisis. Russia is one of the Myanmar military's closest and most influential
international partners.
The relationship between Russia and the Myanmar military extends far beyond
diplomatic engagement. It includes military cooperation, military training, defence
agreements, technical assistance, aviation support, high-level official exchanges, and
political engagement. These are not abstract policies discussed in meeting rooms. These are
decisions that have consequences.
When military capabilities are strengthened, civilians ultimately bear the consequences.
When military leaders receive international support and recognition, civilians bear the
consequences. When military cooperation continues despite years of suffering and violence,
civilians bear the consequences. When the voices of millions of people calling for democracy,
freedom, justice, and human dignity are ignored, civilians bear the consequences.
The people of Myanmar continue to live with these consequences every day. That is
why we are here today. Because we believe these realities carry responsibility.
Support is never without consequence. Military cooperation is never without
consequence. Political legitimacy is never without consequence.
Every government makes choices. Every nation makes choices. And those choices matter. The
partnerships governments maintain matter. The actions they take matter. The voices they
choose to listen to matter.
Today, we respectfully ask the Russian Federation to consider what message is sent to
the people of Myanmar when military cooperation continues despite years of suffering and
violence. What message is sent when support continues while ordinary civilians continue to
pay the price?
We ask Russia to consider whether its relationship with the Myanmar military truly
serves the interests of peace, stability, and human dignity. The people of Myanmar have made
their wishes clear. They seek democracy, freedom, justice, and accountable governance.

Myanmar Unity Movement
Their voices deserve to be heard.
Their suffering deserves recognition.
Their future deserves support.
Today, we respectfully call upon the Russian Federation to take meaningful action.
We call upon Russia to
• End military cooperation and military training with the Myanmar military
authorities
• End support that strengthens the military's operational capacity.
• Refrain from actions that provide political legitimacy to military rule
• Use its influence to encourage peaceful dialogue, respect for human rights, and the
protection of civilians and
• Support international efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful and sustainable
resolution to the crisis in Myanmar.
We believe these actions would send a powerful message — a message that civilian lives
matter, that human dignity matters, and that peace matters.
Today, we also join the call of the people of Myanmar—and the call of Daw Aung San
Suu Kyi's son, Kim Aris—for simple and verified PROOF OF LIFE for Daw Aung San
Suu Kyi. This is not a political demand. It is a humanitarian demand. It is a basic human right.
For years, the people of Myanmar, her family, and the international community have been
denied credible and independent confirmation of her wellbeing. This is a simple request, a
reasonable request and humane request. Because families deserve truth. Because the people of
Myanmar deserve truth. Because the international community deserves truth.
We therefore respectfully urge the Russian Federation, as one of the Myanmar
military's closest international partners, to support calls for clear, undeniable, independent, and
verified proof of life for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.
Because silence must never replace truth. We stand here today peacefully and
respectfully, but with conviction.
Every government must make a choice.
To stand for peace or to stand for conflict.
To stand with the people or those who deny them their rights.
History will remember those choices.
History will remember who stood with justice.
History will remember who remained silent.
Today, our message is simple:
• Do not stand with those who oppress the people of Myanmar.
• Stand with humanity.
• Stand with truth.
• Stand with the people of Myanmar.
Thank you.

Myanmar Unity Movement
Statement to the Embassy of the Russian Federation in London
26 May 2026
To:
The Embassy of the Russian Federation in London, and
The Government of the Russian Federation
The Myanmar Unity Movement (MUM), as part of the Myanmar Spring Revolution
and on behalf of the people of Myanmar, respectfully presents the following statement to the
Embassy of the Russian Federation in London.
Dear Ambassador,
We write today on behalf of members of the Myanmar community in the United
Kingdom and all those who continue to stand in solidarity with the people of Myanmar. We
gather outside the Embassy of the Russian Federation not out of hostility towards the people
of Russia, but out of a deep concern for the people of Myanmar and the future of our country.
More than five years after the military coup of February 2021, the people of Myanmar
continue to endure violence, instability, displacement, fear, and profound human suffering.
Across the country, ordinary civilians continue to bear the consequences of military actions
that have devastated communities, disrupted education, destroyed livelihoods, and shattered
countless families. What began as a political crisis has evolved into one of the most serious
humanitarian and human rights crises in the region. Millions of people continue to live with
uncertainty, insecurity, and the daily consequences of conflict.
This is not simply a political conflict.
This is a crisis that affects millions of human lives.
Today, we address the Russian Federation because Russia is not merely an observer
of Myanmar's crisis. Russia is one of the Myanmar military's closest and most influential
international partners.
The relationship between Russia and the Myanmar military extends far beyond
diplomatic engagement. It includes military cooperation, defence agreements, military training,
technical assistance, aviation support, high-level official exchanges, and political engagement
that have helped strengthen the position of the military authorities during a period of immense
suffering for the people of Myanmar.
We believe these realities carry responsibility.
Support is never without consequence.
Military cooperation is never without consequence.
Political legitimacy is never without consequence.

The people of Myanmar have repeatedly demonstrated their aspirations for democracy,
freedom, accountability, and civilian governance. They have shown remarkable courage,
resilience, and determination in the face of immense hardship.
Their voices deserve to be heard.
Their suffering deserves recognition.
Their future deserves support.
We therefore urge the Russian Federation to stand on the side of the people of
Myanmar, to support peace over conflict, human dignity over repression, and a future built on
justice, accountability, and respect for the will of the people.
We therefore respectfully call upon the Russian Federation to:
