The Consulate General of Romania in Manchester took part today in the Hull Safeguarding Children Partnership - ‘Growing Stronger Together Conference’, hosted at The University of Hull, which brought together professionals from social care, law enforcement, healthcare, education and safeguarding services to discuss current challenges and best practices in protecting children and supporting families.
A particularly valuable contribution was delivered by Mrs Andreea Salvage, Founder of REACH, an organisation actively involved in a wide range of projects supporting the Romanian community in the United Kingdom, as well as a recognised advocate for 🇷🇴children and families. ➡️ Her presentation, “Why Didn’t She Ask for Help?”, highlighted the importance of understanding the cultural background, family values and lived experiences of parents and children when safeguarding concerns arise.
Mrs Salvage emphasised that effective child protection requires more than knowledge of procedures and legislation. It also requires professionals to understand the cultural context in which a family lives, to build trust, communicate effectively and ensure that support is tailored to the needs of each child and parent.
Her intervention reflected the importance of culturally informed safeguarding practices in increasingly diverse communities.
The conference provided an important platform for discussing recent developments in UK legislation relating to child safeguarding, criminal exploitation, county lines activity and social care. As legislative and policy frameworks continue to evolve, the Consulate General of Romania in Manchester remains committed to engaging with key stakeholders, strengthening cooperation with local authorities and ensuring that Romanian families receive appropriate support and understanding when interacting with safeguarding and child protection services.
We extend our sincere thanks to Hull City Council, Humberside Police, Social Services Hull, the Hull Safeguarding Children Partnership, and all professionals and organisations involved in the successful delivery of this important event.
