We were delighted to be shortlisted in the “Community Champions” Category at the All Ireland Housing Awards which took place at The Titanic Building in Belfast last night.

While we didn’t win the award it was a great honour for us to have our Ignite Your Health Girls Programme showcased as a model of good practice within this category from projects from throughout Ireland.

The young people from our peer leadership programme took to the streets of Newry tonight to start the filming of a series of Get Home Safe videos, that will be used to increase awareness of safety amongst young people while on a night out.

This was a new experience for many of them and they didn’t look out of place.

We look forward to continuing filming in the coming weeks and the final production in what are very important issues that young people need to be aware of

Well done to Ryan, Luke, Ethan, Charlie, Caitlin, Ellen and Lucia who represented the wider peer leadership group tonight at the awards.

Well done to all the young people from our Ignite Your Health Girls Programme who braved the elements last night for their 12 hour Sleep out to help raise awareness of homelessness.

This is our third consecutive year delivering this event with different youth programmes we run, all in aid of helping to raise donations for the Newry Simon Community Northern Ireland

The aim of this event is not just to raise donations for the Simon Community but to help give the young people a small insight into what a homeless person faces on a daily basis.

So far the young people have raised over £500 for this years event and have also gathered lots of clothing, toiletry and food items to give to the Simon Community
