It’s not long now until our gates open again, so here’s a quick guide to the most important bits you need to know ahead of the coming term.

🗓️ Tuesday 1st and Wednesday 2nd September are staff training days, so the school is closed to students.

🗓️ On Thursday 3rd we welcome back ONLY our new Year 7s (we can’t wait to meet you!) and our Year 12s for your Orientation Day.

🗓️ On Friday 4th all students come back to school.

👟 For our Year 7s, don’t forget your PE & Games kits on that first day and parents, please make sure you’ve checked all the information on the Year 7 pages of our website (https://www.poolegrammar.com/school-information/new-year-7-information/).

👔 Please make sure ALL students have the correct uniform, including black/grey socks and black or brown shoes (NOT trainers). And remember that shirts must be tucked in and top buttons must be done up please! (https://www.poolegrammar.com/school-information/uniform/)

🥼 Don’t forget everything you might need for your first day including stationery, calculators, lab coats, water bottles and your lunch!

As we head towards the new term, Mrs Gaiu has a message for the talented mathematicians who picked up national awards back in the summer term:

“We are delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our Year 7 and 8 students in this year’s Junior Maths Challenge. A fantastic 80 students took part, demonstrating enthusiasm, perseverance and mathematical talent. Their efforts were rewarded with an impressive 19 Gold, 24 Silver and 29 Bronze certificates.

“We are especially proud that 16 students have qualified for the next stage, the Junior Kangaroo, while one exceptional student, Arya, has progressed to the prestigious Junior Mathematical Olympiad. 🌟

“The photos show just some of the students who achieved Gold certificates. 🥇

“Congratulations to all students who took part, and best wishes to those who have qualified for the next round.”

🇲🇽 ¡Felicidades! to soon-to-be-Year 9 student Teddie who has won a national art competition organised by the Mexican Embassy in celebration of the 2026 World Cup. The Embassy invited young people to illustrate Mexican proverbs through scenes inspired by football and Teddie was chosen as one of three winners from hundreds of entrants.

🖼️ Teddie’s artwork has been on display in the Mexican Embassy in London plus he also won a hamper of Mexican goodies from .

👟 Lace Up Club: enabling people to team up to play sports tournaments and matches, even if they don’t belong to a club.

🌊 Sea Mind Sea Life: promotes all aspects of life by the sea, such as nature tours and sea swimming.

🎶 Mental Music: encourages online music-making activities to connect people and aid mental health.

🎥 Flick Bot: helping people enjoy different sports through photography and video projects.

🖊️ STSSS: supporting those who are suffering with studying stress.

💫 Congratulations to all our students receiving their GCSE results today. We’re so impressed with your achievements and we’ve seen you show maturity, focus and determination as well embodying our school virtues – compassion, integrity, respect and wisdom – in your time at PGS so far.

💪 As a year group, you’ve come through so much, you’ve supported each other, you’ve been role models to the lower school and you’ve inspired others (including your teachers) along the way, so a huge WELL DONE to you all.

📚 If you’ve achieved or outperformed the results you were aiming for, massive congratulations! If your results aren’t quite what you hoped, then remember that they don’t define you and that you *can* still go on to greatness.

🚵🏽 Wishing a HUGE good luck to soon-to-be-Year 13 student Jake who is taking on a full-distance Ironman (unofficial) triathlon this Saturday.

Jake and his dad Alec will rack up 140.6 miles in just one day in the shape of 🏊🏻 a 2.4-mile lake swim, 🚲 a 112-mile cycle and 🏃 a 26.2-mile marathon to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Two years ago the family sadly lost Jake’s grandma to MND, so they understand how funds can help people coping with the disease. “We’re doing this,” explains Jake, “because we’ve seen what MND does to its victims and the heartache and challenges it brings to the families and friends that support and love those afflicted by it. As I’m 17 we can’t enter an official Ironman event so there’s no race infrastructure or cheering crowds… just the two of us pushing through it together and Mum in the support van, so your support will also serve as motivation and inspiration for me and my dad to complete one of the toughest physical challenges there is.”

📄 Here are some quick tips from PGS students and staff on preparing for Results Day…

😳 Everyone feels nervous, no matter how well you were prepared or how hard you worked. Just remember you’re not alone!

🏖️ Keep yourself busy and distracted by meeting up with friends or doing extra work shifts to distract yourself from any nerves that might be building ahead of the day.

🗣️ We say it all the time but please talk to people about how you’re feeling. Share your thoughts with parents/carers, siblings or friends, or get in contact with your tutor or Head of Year. We totally understand what you’re going through and we know how much it helps to share it with someone.

✉️ Be prepared for any and all outcomes. Look up job prospects, check UCAS info, see what your second, third and fourth options look like… Obviously the likelihood is you’ll get the results you were aiming for but, just in case, prepare yourself (and your loved ones) for the ‘what if’ scenario.

🎈 Come in and celebrate! Teachers and staff who’ve been on the journey with you will be in school on both Results Days to share your triumphs and help you navigate next steps. Plus you get to enjoy Miss Prior’s amazing balloon sculptures! 🎈

🏆 Be proud of yourself. You’ve come so far and achieved so much. Make sure you remind yourself of that!

School will open for A-level results this Thursday 13th August at 8am and for GCSE results next Thursday 20th August at 9am. We look forward to seeing you and sharing this momentous day with you and your classmates!
