Vintage books

I've had a lovely weekend so far, examining boxes of well over 100 vintage books, donated to the library to raise funds.

Do vintage books stir up a little something special in you? That old-book smell!! Wondering about who had the book before, who left that coffee stain on the cover? Who wrote that message inside the front page? What was life like on the day it was given to someone.

Whether you’re hunting for a classic or just love browsing through the crates, we’ve got a really good selection of well-priced stock ready to go.

Choosing pre-loved vinyl is a brilliant, eco-friendly way to keep great music in circulation, and it’s a fun way for us to mix up what the library has to offer.

Great news: brand new stock goes out on the first Saturday of every month, so it's always worth popping in to see what's just landed.

And if you've got vinyls at home no longer listened to, we gladly take donations!

Without volunteers, our library wouldn't be open. We are 100% volunteer-run.

Recently, Rachel wrote this about her library volunteering:

I moved to Sapcote in 2014 and love living in the village. After 10 years, I was aware that working full time gave me little opportunity to integrate into the community. I didn't know many people in the village outside of my immediate neighbours and some of the staff in the Co-op.

I saw an advert looking for volunteers at the library. At that time, I didn't even know we had a library, or that it was entirely community led.

I signed up and have been volunteering for two years, meeting many residents and the other volunteers, and starting to feel part of the community. The library is a wonderful space, not only for books, but for the people who visit and the opportunity to bring the community together.

Today Books and Brews is all about the opportunity to pick up some some awesome preloved vinyls & books. And whilst you're at it perhaps stay for a cuppa and a natter.

This year, children who took part in the Summer Reading Challenge at our library read 347 books. Reading over the summer holidays helps children keep their skills and confidence going, and research links reading for pleasure in childhood with a stronger vocabulary later in life and better wellbeing.

Thank you to everyone who so excellently supported a child through this challenge.
