National Petroleum Authority Our Mission:
To Regulate, Oversee and Monitor the Petroleum Downstream Industry in Ghana for Efficiency, Growth, and Stakeholder Satisfaction.

The National Petroleum Authority was established by an Act of Parliament (NPA Act 2005, ACT 691) to regulate the petroleum downstream industry in Ghana. As a Regulator, the Authority ensures that the industry remains efficient, profitable, fair, and at the same time, ensuring that consumers receive value for money.

Effective today, Tuesday August 4 2026, motorists will receive a reduction of GHc2.00 per litre on diesel. This is in line with His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama’s directive to reduce the regulatory margin on diesel by GHc2.00 per litre for one (1) month.

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has duly communicated the directive to oil marketing companies to adjust their pumps accordingly and begin the implementation from today. The National Petroleum Authority believes that this temporary intervention would cushion consumers, prevent transport fare hikes, and contain inflationary pressures.

Parliamentary Committee on Economy and Development Lauds NPA for Advancing Ghana’s Downstream Petroleum Sector

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Economy and Development has commended the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) for its impressive work in regulating Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.

The Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Economy and Development, Hon Eric Afful, who gave the commendation said the NPA was crucial to Ghana’s economy in terms of keeping the economy running and contributing significantly to the gross domestic product (GDP).

This commendation came during a working visit to the Authority, where members of the Committee met with the Chief Executive, Mr. Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, Esq., and the executive management team of NPA to gain first-hand insight into the NPA’s operations and regulatory mandate.

Hon. Afful said the purpose of the visit was to follow up on previous engagements and to Verify relevant information. He also explained that the Committee was “not here as policemen” but rather to “collaborate” with the Authority and commended the institution for its work and contribution to the country’s development.

In his address, Mr. Tameklo expressed his appreciation to the Committee for the visit, noting that it reflected Parliament's continued interest in strengthening the downstream petroleum sector.
“Today the authority is honoured to receive the members of this august committee of parliament, I have always maintained the work of MPs is not a joke and so today, we open our doors for verification, so it does not become the CEO’s words only.”

He reaffirmed the Authority's commitment to ensuring a safe, efficient and resilient petroleum industry, adding that the engagement provided an opportunity to showcase the NPA's achievements, ongoing reforms and the critical role it continues to play in safeguarding the sector.

The Committee also toured key operational facilities within the NPA where they were taken through the functions of the Authority's technical departments and the systems that underpin the NPA's regulatory oversight.

The Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority, Mr. Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, Esq., spent last night at some depots in Tema, monitoring progress of the implementation of the pilot phase of the 24 Hour Economy Programme in the Downstream Petroleum Sector.

Mr. Tameklo, in the company of the Lead for Energy at the 24 Hour Authority, Mr. Roland Azuguvu, the Director for the 24 Hour Programme at the Ghana Police Service, ACP Benjamin Ania, the Tema Regional Commander of Police, DCOP Asiedu, the liaison for the 24 Hour Programme at National Secourity Council Secretariat, Air Commodore Francis Ayamba, Directors of the National Petroleum Authority and representatives from the customs division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, engaged management and staff of these depots on ways to improve the implementation to the fullest potential.

The team was pleased to hear from these depots that, since the pilot commmenced, productivity has expanded with increased working hours, expanded workforce and work shifts as well as increased volumes and revenue.

The operators of these depots however mentioned the need for improved lighting and security.

This pilot phase which covers 247 retail outlets, 11 depots, and 2 refineries, is to test the viability of extended-operational hours in downstream petroleum operations and also to assess facility readiness relative to infrastructure, workforce, security, and compliance.

It is also to improve availability and accessibility of petroleum products in selected locations and above all generate evidence on employment, revenue, demand and service delivery.

NPA Chief Executive lauds 2026 Ghana Downstream Awardees for driving the Industry

The Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Mr. Godwin Kudzo Tameklo Esq., has commended the nominees and winners of the 2026 Ghana Downstream Awards for their contribution to the growth and sustainability of the country’s downstream petroleum industry.

Speaking at the second edition of the Ghana Downstream Awards and Gala Night on Saturday, Mr. Tameklo said “every nominee and award recipient represents the progress and professionalism driving our industry forward.”

He added that “The future of Ghana's downstream petroleum industry will be built on innovation, collaboration and unwavering commitment to excellence."

The NPA Boss stressed that a strong downstream petroleum industry is fundamental to Ghana's economic growth and national development.
