What is Cavan's Future for our Youth?
Aughadreena, Corlurgan and Lacken Schools tell their stories!

CavanPPN and Cavan County Council collaborated this year with 3 Cavan National Schools to source our young people's vision of our county in 2036.
Engaging with over 50 children from 1st to 6th classes, the vision provided insights into their fears, hopes and dreams of a future for Cavan's young citizens. Brought to life by the writing of Daniel Downey, the life of 'Cara' a ten year old in 2036 brings to life the reality of a challenging but interesting future.

From AI friends to storm drenched floods, extinct species to genetically resurrected dodos... the future is what we can imagine and more.

Join us for the launch of this booklet by renowned meteorologist Joanna Donnelly this Friday 3-4pm.

A status yellow rainfall warning has been issued for County Cavan, in effect from 7pm Thursday until 8am Friday. Heavy, blustery rain associated with Storm Austen is expected during this period, with the potential for difficult travelling conditions, poor visibility, and localised flooding.

A very successful AGM of the Older Persons Council (OPC) was held at the Lavey Inn on Wednesday, 7th October. The AGM attracted a fantastic turnout, demonstrating the commitment to ensuring the voices of older people continue to be heard and represented.

The event was also attended by representatives from An Garda Síochána, the HSE, Cavan Federation, ICA and other agencies, who took the opportunity to provide information, advice and updates.

We would like to thank everyone who participated in the AGM and wish the new Executive every success as they begin their two-year term.

PPNs Supported For Another Half Decade

Cavan Public Participation Network (CavanPPN) warmly welcomes Ár Scáth a Chéile, the Government’s new five-year strategy to support and strengthen Ireland’s community and voluntary sector.

We particularly welcome Action 4.4, which commits to continuing support for Public Participation Networks (PPNs) over the next 5 years, implementing the PPN Roadmap and broadening membership. This recognises the essential role PPNs play in connecting communities with decision-makers and ensuring local voices help shape public policy.

As Minister Calleary noted, the strategy aims to deliver “a strengthened relationship between government and the community and voluntary sector”.
Minister Buttimer similarly reaffirmed the commitment to strengthening participatory structures such as PPNs with “This strategy reinforces our commitment to giving a voice to communities and ensuring that they have the capacity and opportunities to influence the decisions that affect them, through strengthening participatory structures such as the Public Participation Networks at local and stakeholder for a national level.”

CavanPPN emphasises that meaningful engagement with communities should involve their own mandated representative structures. Under the Local Government Act 2014, PPNs provide an established channel for community representation and participation.

We look forward to working with Government and local partners to turn this strategy into meaningful outcomes for communities across County Cavan and Ireland.

CavanPPN has a seat vacant on the Local Community Development Committee (LCDC) for County Cavan and wish to fill this with a Social Inclusion voice at the invitation of Cavan County Council.

The nominee MUST come from a Social Inclusion member group of CavanPPN with a proposer and seconder from a member group. They MUST submit a bio of 50-300 words describing why you seek this seat and your suitability to be the voice for Social Inclusion in County Cavan. We also ask that the full contact details (email, phone, address) be included and that candidates do not already hold another PPN representative position.

Emails have been sent to ALL member groups with information on this. Please request this info from your registered point of contact with the PPN if they have not forwarded it on already to your members.

Of the 103 Social Inclusion member groups, we hope that this voice is not lost to your communities. Please step forward to have your voice counted!
