Sumbal: 21 May 2026:

Today: A meeting was convened by SDM Sumbal Murtaza Ahmad sheikh (JKAS) with all Imams and Khateebs of Sub Division Sumbal under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan to discuss measures for curbing the growing menace of drug abuse in society.

During the meeting, the SDM highlighted the alarming impact of drug addiction on youth and society at large and emphasized the need for a collective and sustained effort to eradicate the menace. Stressing the vital role of religious leaders, the SDM stated that Molvis and Khateebs hold significant influence among the public and can play a crucial role in shaping public opinion and guiding youth towards a healthy and responsible path.

The religious leaders were urged to use religious gatherings, Friday sermons, and other public interactions to spread awareness regarding the harmful effects of drug abuse and encourage families and communities to remain vigilant. The participants assured their full cooperation in strengthening the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and pledged to contribute actively towards building a drug-free and aware society in Sub Division Sumbal.

ERO 14-Sonawari Reviews Progress of Panchayat Electoral Roll Revision; Stresses Transparency, Saturation*

Sumbal 17 April 2026:A meeting regarding revision of Panchayat Electoral Roll 2026 was conducted today under the chairmanship of the Electoral Registration Officer, 14-Sonawari, Murtaza Ahmad Sheikh (JKAS) .The meeting was attended by BDO Hajin/Nowgam, PEBOs and BLOs (through virtual mode) of Block Nowgam and Hajin.

During the meeting, threadbare discussions were held on the ongoing revision process of the Panchayat Electoral Roll. The Electoral Registration Officer stressed the importance of ensuring accuracy, transparency, and timely completion of the revision exercise. All field functionaries were directed to carry out door-to-door verification and ensure that no eligible voter is left out.

Special emphasis was laid on the inclusion of newly eligible voters, deletion of duplicate or ineligible entries, and correction of errors in the existing electoral roll. The officers were also instructed to create awareness among the general public regarding the revision process.

Expressing concern over poor pe*******on in certain areas, ERO stressed the need for intensified field-level engagement.He directed PEBOs and BLOS to ensure proper identification and inclusion of vulnerable sections, particularly persons with disabilities and voters aged 85 years and above.

The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks and a commitment from all stakeholders to work with dedication and coordination for the successful completion of the task.

Special Camps to be Conducted at all Blocks of Sumbal Sub Division to Help Citizens Submit Claims and Objections
Sumbal, 04 April. 26: Special Camps are being conducted at Block Hajin, Block Sumbal, Block Naidkhai, Block Nowgam and Block Ganastan of Sumbal Sub Division to help citizens to submit Claims and Objections to the Draft Electoral Roll, as a part of Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
Further, it is informed that the period for filing claims and objections began on 04 April 2026 and will continue till 29 April, 2026.
During this period, the citizens are enabled to verify their names in the Draft Panchayat Electoral Roll. Special Camps is for facilitating verification of one’s name in the Panchayat Electoral Roll and for inclusion, correction and objection related activities. The Panchayat Booth Level Officers (PBLOs) and Panchayat Electoral Booth Officials (PEBOs) will be available at Polling Stations during these special camps.

A meeting regarding the ongoing Annual Panchayat Electoral Roll Revision was held today under the chairmanship of Murtaza Ahmad Sheikh,(JKAS) Electoral Registration Officer, 14-Sonawari.

The meeting reviewed the progress of revision activities and discussed matters related to claims and objections received during the process. All Block Development Officers (BDOs) and Panchayat Election Booth Officers (PEBOs) of Sonawari attended the meeting.

The chair emphasized timely completion of the revision process, ensuring accuracy of electoral rolls, and proper disposal of claims and objections as per rules.

The meeting concluded with directions to all concerned officers to work in coordination for smooth and efficient completion of the exercise.

Sumbal, April 1, 2026:
A meeting regarding the digitization of Jamabandis, entry of backlog mutations, and updation of maps was held today under the chairmanship of Murtaza Ahmad sheikh (JKAS) Sub Divisional Magistrate, Sumbal at dak bungalow sumbal.

The meeting reviewed the progress achieved so far in digitization of land records and disposal of pending mutation cases. Detailed discussions were held on accelerating the pace of work and addressing bottlenecks in updating revenue records and maps.

Tehsildar Sumbal along with Naib Tehsildars from Sumbal, Shadipora, Nowgam, Hajin, Kosumbagh, Gulshanpora, Naidkhai, and Madwan allong with all the patwaries attended the meeting.
The Sub Divisional Magistrate stressed the importance of timely completion of digitization and directed all concerned officers to clear backlog mutations on priority. He also emphasized maintaining accuracy and transparency in revenue records.

All officers were instructed to work in coordination and ensure that the targets are achieved within the stipulated timeframe.

*DC Bandipora Holds Public Darbar at Sumbal, Reviews Facilities at Transit Accommodation Odina*Sumbal.

06 February 2026: The Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, on Friday convened a special public darbar at Dak Bungalow, Sumbal, with participation from delegations representing Sonawari, members of the Trade Federation, civil society representatives, PRI members, social activists, and officers from various line departments.

During the public darbar, the Deputy Commissioner patiently listened to the grievances and concerns raised by various delegations and assured them of timely redressal in coordination with the concerned departments. On the occasion, she also urged the public, PRI members, and representatives of various delegations to actively participate and extend cooperation in strengthening waste management initiatives, emphasizing shared responsibility in maintaining cleanliness and environmental hygiene.

Representatives from Civil Society Sonawari, Tehsil Coordination Committee Hajin, PRI members from different blocks of Sumbal Sub-Division, Municipal Committee Hajin, Municipal Committee Sumbal corporators, and delegations from Nowgam, Ganastan, Naidkhai Block, and Sumbal Block raised issues related to development works, civic amenities, and basic public services, including concerns pertaining to local connectivity and access, particularly for residents of Sumbal town.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned officers to take immediate action on genuine issues and emphasized the need for strengthening inter-departmental coordination to ensure effective public service delivery. She reiterated the district administration’s commitment to addressing public concerns at the grassroots level through such outreach initiatives.

Later, the Deputy Commissioner visited the Transit Accommodation at Odina, Sumbal, where she interacted with migrant employees residing at the facility and reviewed the available amenities to ensure adequate standards of safety, convenience, and welfare. She also took stock of the arrangements being put in place for the forthcoming Maha Shivratri festival at Odina. The Deputy Commissioner sought feedback from the employees and assured them that all genuine issues would be addressed promptly, reiterating the administration’s commitment towards the well-being of migrant employees.

Advisory Issued for Closure of Sumbal–Chewa Road at Naninara

Sumbal, Bandipora, Feb 4: The Executive Engineer, R&B Division Sumbal, has issued a public advisory regarding the closure of the Sumbal–Chewa Road at Naninara, Sumbal, Bandipora, with effect from February 6, 2026.
The decision has been taken due to ongoing works in the area. Officials stated that there is no alternative but to close the road in the interest of public safety and to ensure smooth ex*****on of the project.

The general public and commuters have been advised to follow alternate traffic arrangements during the closure period and cooperate with the authorities.

The department expressed regret over the inconvenience caused and assured that normal traffic movement will be restored at the earliest.

Sumbal 27 january 2026:
MLA Sonawari, Advocate Hilal Akbar lone accompanied by SDM Sumbal, Murtaza Ahmad sheikh (JKAS) carried out extensive visits to various departments across the Sub-Division to assess preparedness and ensure uninterrupted delivery of essential services during the ongoing spell of snowfall.

The visits focused on key sectors including electricity, water supply, healthcare services, road connectivity, and other critical public facilities.

During the inspection, they reviewed the availability of staff, machinery, and emergency response systems. Instructions were issued to concerned departments to remain on high alert, ensure round-the-clock monitoring, and respond swiftly to any disruption or public grievance. Special emphasis was laid on maintaining power supply, ensuring safe drinking water, keeping hospitals fully functional, and clearing roads to avoid inconvenience to the public.

Both MLA Sonawari and SDM Sumbal reiterated that public safety and uninterrupted basic services remain the top priority, and directed officials to work in close coordination to tackle any situation arising due to heavy snowfall.
