During the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly session on June 23, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay delivered one of his most forceful speeches yet against the opposition Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, rejecting claims that TVK was merely an "actor's party" and asserting that his government had earned its mandate through grassroots work and public trust. Vijay accused the previous DMK administration of failing to adequately address key issues such as corruption, governance efficiency, law and order, and social challenges, while defending his government's policies and vision for Tamil Nadu. He also responded to criticism from opposition members, emphasizing that leadership is defined by action rather than rhetoric, and highlighted his government's commitment to transparency, development, and accountability. A press note from TVK general secretary N. Anand said this follows the party founder president Vijay giving the nod to Mr. Nehru's request for fighting the April 9 elections as part of the TVK alliance. Mr.Nehru had launched his regional party in October, 2025 pledging to safeguard the rights of the people and to fight for securing Statehood.Subsequently, the TVK, which had only the other day announced candidates for all 30 Assembly constituencies in the Union Territory, reallocated Orleanpet and Thattanchavady to the NMK.Interestingly, though Mr. Nehru, a sitting MLA of the Orleanpet constituency, was among the Independents who had lent support to the AINRC-BJP government under Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, he had not shied away from attacking the NDA and stirring controversies. He once gatecrashed a State-event to protest "tardy progress" of Smart City projects and on another occasion created a flutter by wheeling a trader injured in an attack by miscreants on a stretcher to the premib.
