Shri Ashok Kumar Lahiri, Vice Chairperson, NITI Aayog, delivered the 11th Foundation Day Lecture of Bandhan Bank on “Global Uncertainties: Implications for India’s Economy and Banking Sector.”

Addressing the gathering, Shri Lahiri spoke about the evolving global landscape shaped by geopolitical tensions, trade disruptions, and rapid advances in AI and digitisation, while highlighting the resilience of the Indian economy.

He emphasised the need to sustain reforms and strengthen manufacturing, investment, exports, infrastructure, skills and financial inclusion, while ensuring that innovation and technology are accompanied by resilience in the banking sector.

He expressed confidence that India’s strong economic and banking fundamentals will enable the country to navigate global uncertainties and continue its journey towards Viksit Bharat.

In Holagunda Aspirational Block, an inclusive sports initiative is enabling Children with Special Needs (CwSN) to discover and develop their sporting potential and participate at the State-Level Para Sports arena.

Through awareness campaigns, parent counselling, systematic talent identification, confidence-building, specialised coaching and continuous mentoring, students are receiving the support needed to pursue their sporting aspirations.

The impact is inspiring, with CwSN students from Holagunda qualifying for the State-Level Para Sports Meet and earning prestigious awards and medals, showcasing their talent, determination and spirit.

Beyond sporting achievements, the initiative is strengthening confidence, parental participation, talent identification and equal opportunities in sports, demonstrating how inclfusive ecosystems can help every child realise their potential.

Shri Ashok Kumar Lahiri, Vice Chairperson, NITI Aayog, delivered the Annual Oration Address at the Bengal Business Council’s Annual Convention and Vision Conclave in Kolkata on 22 August 2026, speaking on “A Roadmap for Development of West Bengal.”

In his address, Shri Lahiri highlighted the need for West Bengal to accelerate its growth trajectory and contribute meaningfully to India’s journey towards Viksit Bharat @2047. He outlined the State’s strengths, including its strategic location, rich intellectual tradition and industrial heritage, while emphasising the need to revive these advantages through focused and sustained action.

He identified key priorities for the State’s development, including industrialisation and investment, stronger infrastructure and connectivity, foundational literacy and numeracy, primary healthcare, and a conducive environment based on trust and the rule of law.

Shri Lahiri concluded by emphasising West Bengal’s immense potential and the need for timely action to realise it. “The time to act is now and here.”

Dr. Joram Aniya, Member, NITI Aayog, held meetings with the Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports, Shri Tinku Roy; Minister for Higher Education & Panchayat, Shri Kishore Barman; Chief Secretary, Shri Jitendra Kumar Sinha; and senior officials of the Government of Tripura.

The discussions focused on good governance, innovation, education, skill development, sports, sustainable tourism, climate action and investment, with an emphasis on outcome-oriented planning and effective monitoring.

The role of the Tripura Institution for Transformation (TIFT) in advancing the State’s vision towards 2047 was also discussed, with a focus on realising Tripura’s potential, empowering citizens and promoting sustainable development.

The meetings reaffirmed the shared vision of positioning Tripura as a hub for sports excellence, holistic education and sustainable tourism, while ensuring inclusive and sustainable development.

The two-day Bihar SDG Conclave 2026 focused on localising the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), strengthening district-led development, and promoting data-driven planning towards Viksit Bihar @2047.

Dr. N. Vijayalakshmi, Additional Chief Secretary, Planning & Development Department, Government of Bihar, presented the State’s SDG journey, while the NITI Aayog team, led by Prof. K. V. Raju, Member, NITI Aayog, shared perspectives on district-led development, District GDP and Primary Sector GVA frameworks, and cluster-based approaches to strengthen agricultural value chains.

The discussions emphasised stronger district-level data systems, evidence-based planning, and institutionalising SDG monitoring at the district, block, and Gram Panchayat levels.

The conclave concluded with a collective commitment to “Leave No One Behind” and accelerate progress towards SDG 2030 and Viksit Bihar @2047 through stronger institutions, better data, and empowered districts.
