The Polish Institute is part of the Polish diplomatic mission to India with the aim of promoting and fostering an understanding of Poland's culture throughout the country in a spirit of mutual cooperation. Based in Delhi, the Institute develops events and cultural programming in the genres of the visual arts, film, theatre, music and literature in collaboration with established Indian cultural organisations.

📖✨ Some stories don’t age. They evolve.

More than 130 years after Bolesław Prus published Lalka (The Doll), the story of Stanisław Wokulski and Izabela Łęcka continues to inspire filmmakers — and captivate new generations of audiences.

From classic Polish cinema to television and now global streaming, Lalka has been reimagined again and again:

🎬 1968 — Wojciech Jerzy Has brings Lalka to the big screen, starring Mariusz Dmochowski and Beata Tyszkiewicz.

📺 1977 — Ryszard Ber’s acclaimed 9-episode television adaptation features Jerzy Kamas and Małgorzata Braunek.

🔥 2026 — Paweł Maślona offers a contemporary interpretation for Netflix, starring Tomasz Schuchardt and Sandra Drzymalska. The series reached the Top 10 in 41 countries on debut, was #1 on Netflix in Poland, and by 20 September had entered the Top 10 in 62 countries and territories.

🎞️ 30 September 2026 — The story returns once again to cinemas. Maciej Kawalski’s new adaptation stars Marcin Dorociński as Wokulski and Kamila Urzędowska as Izabela, with Marek Kondrat returning to the big screen as Ignacy Rzecki.

And at the heart of it all is Prus’ 1890 novel — a work that has travelled far beyond Poland and has been translated into 28 languages.

✨ One novel. Four adaptations. More than a century of fascination.

Perhaps that is the real magic of Lalka: every generation discovers something new in a story that never truly leaves us.

We were thrilled to kick off "Polska in the Classroom" today with students from Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Harkesh Nagar, Okhla — and the energy was unmistakable!

Through an engaging presentation, students explored Poland's cities, landmarks, and everyday facts — with a highlight being students greeting each other in Polish phrases like *Dzień dobry* and *Dziękuję*, sparking big smiles all around.

The centerpiece was Wycinanki, the traditional Polish art of paper-cutting. Armed with scissors and colourful paper, students crafted original designs with remarkable creativity — turning Poland from a name in a textbook into something they could see, touch, and experience.

The response from students and teachers was overwhelmingly positive, and it's given us a clear vision: to connect with more schools and bring the richness of Polish culture to every corner we can reach!

More classrooms, more culture, more connections to come.

📖🇵🇱 An evening of literature, art and Polish culture!

The Polish Institute New Delhi and the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in New Delhi came together to celebrate National Reading 2026, with an evening dedicated to Adam Mickiewicz’s timeless masterpiece, Dziady (Forefathers’ Eve).

From selected readings and powerful fragments of Maja Kleczewska’s theatre adaptation to an evocative art installation by Anna Krzemińska, the evening brought Mickiewicz’s world of memory, identity, exile and hope to life. ✨

The celebration continued with a special sweet surprise created exclusively for the Embassy — a delicious finishing touch to an evening celebrating the richness of Polish culture. 🇵🇱❤️

A beautiful reminder that great literature has no borders and continues to connect us across generations and cultures. 🇵🇱🤝🇮🇳

We were delighted to be part of the inauguration of IN FLUX, a solo exhibition by Polish artist Anna Krzemińska-Baoni, at Gallery ONKAF, organised in cooperation with the Polish Institute in Delhi.

We were honoured to welcome Head of Mission of The Republic of Poland in India, Dr Piotr Antoni Świtalski, who inaugurated the exhibition, exploring the fascinating connections between the human body, landscape, transformation and nature through painting and spatial installation.

A heartfelt appreciation to Anna for her distinctive artistic vision and to everyone who made this exhibition possible.

Art creates bridges, sparks dialogue and brings people closer. 🇵🇱🇮🇳 IN FLUX is yet another beautiful example of the growing cultural friendship between Poland and India.

Maciej Nowicki (1910–1950), is remembered as one of Poland’s pioneering modernist architects, whose visionary work continues to influence architectural thought in India and around the world.

In 1949, he travelled to India to help envision a new capital for Punjab — Chandigarh, working with American architect Albert Mayer, Nowicki imagined a city where modern architecture could coexist with nature, movement and human life. His innovative ideas for the Capitol Complex became an important influence on Chandigarh’s architectural story.

His journey came to a sudden and tragic end. On 31 August 1950, while returning from India to the United States, Nowicki lost his life, when the DC-3 aircraft carrying him crashed near Cairo, Egypt.
He never saw Chandigarh take shape. Yet his vision became part of its foundations.

75 years after his death, Maciej Nowicki’s ideas continue to inspire architects, students and admirers of modernism in India and beyond.

Polish Institute at the Global Educulture Conclave 2026

Ms. Małgorzata Wejsis-Gołębiak, Director, Polish Institute in New Delhi, was invited as a Guest of Honour at the Global Educulture Conclave 2026, held on 24–25 August at The Ashok Hotel, New Delhi.

Addressing the gathering of distinguished academics, cultural leaders, educators and thought leaders, Ms. Wejsis-Gołębiak spoke about the vital role of culture and education in shaping a more connected and humane future, while highlighting the enduring cultural and intellectual ties between Poland and India. She also presented the Global Excellence Awards on the occasion.

The conclave, centred on the theme "Reimagining Human Futures," brought together diverse voices to explore innovation, collaboration, education and cultural heritage as forces for a better tomorrow.

Cinema as a Bridge Between India and Poland 🇵🇱🇮🇳🎬

As part of Film Expo India 2026, the Polish Institute in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in New Delhi was pleased to host a special conversation with H.E. Dr. Piotr Antoni Świtalski, Head of Mission of the Republic of Poland in India, exploring the powerful role of cinema, culture and creative collaboration in strengthening India–Poland relations.

The conversation brought into focus the immense possibilities for filmmakers, artists, cinematographers and storytellers from both countries to connect, collaborate and create new avenues of cultural exchange.

From co-productions and professional exchanges to greater visibility for Polish and Indian cinema, the discussion highlighted how the shared language of cinema can open new doors and deepen the already strong cultural ties between Poland and India.

The Polish Institute remains committed to fostering meaningful cultural partnerships and creating opportunities for the creative communities of both countries to engage, collaborate and inspire one another.

🇮🇳🇵🇱 Cinema Connecting India and Poland at Film Expo India 2026

Day 1 of Film Expo India 2026 began on a warm and engaging note as actor Vindu Dara Singh, Mentor and Curator, Film Expo, welcomed Ms. Małgorzata Wejsis-Gołębiak, Director, Polish Institute at the VIP Lounge at Bharat Mandapam.

The meeting set the stage for a special conversation scheduled on Day 2 of the Film Expo with H.E. Dr. Piotr Antoni Świtalski, Head of Mission of the Republic of Poland, on the role of cinema, culture and creative collaboration in deepening India–Poland relations.

The conversation will also explore new opportunities for filmmakers, artists and storytellers from both countries, reaffirming the power of cinema to bring cultures closer and create meaningful bridges between people.
