V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, Tuticorin was represented by its Chairperson, Shri Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, as an esteemed panellist in the session on “Green and Sustainable Logistics” at the conference “Excellence in Motion: Re-defining the Future of Logistics in India”, organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in New Delhi.

The session was chaired by Shri Sanjiv Garg, IRTS, CMILT, Secretary General, The Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport (India), and featured distinguished panellists including Shri Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority; Shri Gyan Abhishek, Head of Intermodal Operations (South Asia), Maersk Line India Pvt. Ltd.; Shri Keku Bomi Gazder, MD & CEO, Aviapro Logistics Services Pvt. Ltd.; Shri S. K. Suri, IRSME (Retd.), Former General Manager, Railway Coach Factory, Kapurthala; and Prof. Animesh Gupta, Sr. Vice President, Hindustan National Glass & Industries Limited.

The discussion focused on cleaner transport modes, green infrastructure, alternative fuels, energy-efficient logistics systems, and operational innovations aimed at reducing emissions and building a sustainable logistics ecosystem.

Mr. Georg Jahnsen, Project Manager, GIZ, and Mr. Sarthak Agarwal, Energy Advisor, GIZ India, visited V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority to gain insights into the Port's ongoing green energy and sustainability initiatives.

The delegation was welcomed by Shri Rajesh Soundararajan, IAS, Deputy Chairperson, along with senior officials of the Port. During the visit, the team toured the Green Hydrogen Pilot Plant and the proposed Methanol Bunkering Facility, gaining firsthand insights into VOCPA's efforts to promote alternative fuels and sustainable maritime operations.

A detailed presentation highlighted the Port's green initiatives, progress of the Green Hydrogen Pilot Plant and the strategic significance of the upcoming Methanol Bunkering Facility in supporting cleaner shipping and maritime decarbonization.

The visit also provided an opportunity for discussions on energy transition and sustainable port development, reflecting the spirit of Indo-German collaboration under the Indo-German Energy Forum (IGEF), which serves as a key platform for advancing bilateral cooperation in renewable energy, energy efficiency and clean energy transition.

V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, Tuticorin was represented at the conference “Excellence in Motion: Re-defining the Future of Logistics in India”, organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) on 5th June 2026 in New Delhi.

Shri Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, was among the distinguished dignitaries who graced the inaugural session.

During the inaugural session, Shri Purohit delivered a Special Address, highlighting VOCPA's initiatives in cargo growth, green energy, and digital transformation, showcasing the Port's commitment to sustainable and technology-driven development.

VOCPA Signs MoU with H2Global to Advance Export of Green Hydrogen and Derivatives from India to Europe

V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, Tuticorin has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with H2Global, represented by the H2Global Foundation and Hintco GmbH, becoming the first Indian port to partner with the European agency to explore the development of green hydrogen and clean shipping fuel trade corridors.

The partnership aims to facilitate the integration of port infrastructure for the export of green hydrogen and its derivatives from India to Germany and other European markets, while supporting innovative mechanisms for clean fuel production, long-term offtake arrangements, and the development of sustainable maritime fuel ecosystems.

The MoU was signed on behalf of VOCPA by Shri A. Ganesan, Chief Mechanical Engineer, while Dr. Maximilian Held, Chief Operating Officer and Head of Solutions Lab & Shipping Initiative, H2Global Foundation, signed on behalf of H2Global. Mr. Timo Bollerhey, Co-Founder of H2Global and CEO of H2Global Holding & Hintco GmbH, Ms. Andrea Helf, CFO, and other officials participated virtually during the signing ceremony.

This strategic collaboration strengthens VOCPA's vision of becoming a leading green port and a key gateway for clean energy exports, supporting India's ambitions in green hydrogen production, sustainable shipping, and global energy transition.

An Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) Preparedness Mock Drill was successfully conducted at V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, Tuticorin through the joint efforts of the Medical Department and Port Health Organization (PHO).

The exercise brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including State Health Authorities, Joint Director of Health Services, Corporation Health Officer, District Health Officers, 108 Ambulance Services, Government Medical College Hospital response teams, Customs, Immigration, CISF, Fire & Rescue Services, shipping agents, terminal operators, and other allied agencies.

The successful conduct of the drill demonstrated strong inter-agency coordination, operational readiness, and a shared commitment towards enhancing public health emergency preparedness at the port.
