On Monday, the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF), in collaboration with the Justice Education Society (JES), and with funding from the Government of Canada, officially commenced a one-week Court Orderly and Close Protection Officer Training program.

The training forms part of the broader Criminal Courts Backlog Reduction Project, an initiative aimed at improving the efficiency of the justice system by addressing the backlog of cases.

Court Orderlies and Close Protection Officers play a vital role in maintaining safety, order, and security within the judicial system. By enhancing participants' knowledge and operational capabilities, the programme strengthens the protection of judges, judicial officers, court staff, attorneys, witnesses, and members of the public, while supporting the safe and uninterrupted administration of justice.

The RSLPF remains committed to building the capacity of personnel who support the justice sector and to fostering a safer, more effective court environment.

The Police Marine Unit (PMU) officially brought Tiller Week 2026 to a close with a fitting ceremony at the Unit's base, commemorating 32 years of dedicated service and excellence in maritime policing.

The ceremony was attended by Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr. Mashama Sealy, Assistant Commissioner of Police Elvis Thomas, Fire Chief Ditney Downes, former Police Marine Unit Commander Winston Mitille, officers of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force, and other invited guests who joined in celebrating this significant milestone.

A special congratulations to the Saint Lucia Fire Service, who emerged victorious in the exciting Run, Swim & Shoot Challenge, displaying outstanding teamwork, endurance, and determination throughout the competition.

Special recognition is also extended to Police Constable 200 Shervy Smith of the Police Marine Unit, who was awarded Most Outstanding Individual Performer for his exceptional display of skill, resilience, and commitment during the event.

As we reflect on this year's theme, "A Legacy of Maritime Policing: 32 Years of Duty, Discipline and Dedication," we pay tribute to the men and women of the Police Marine Unit, both past and present, whose unwavering professionalism, courage, and dedication continue to protect Saint Lucia's maritime borders, uphold the rule of law, and serve our coastal communities with pride.
