The Mayor of Castries alongside a team from the Castries Constituency Council (CCC) , Saint Lucia National Housing Corporation (NHC) , and the Saint Lucia Solid Waste Management Authority (SLSWMA) on January 7th, 2022 undertake a joint tour of problematic areas with respect to waste management within the NHC housing Complex in the city.
During the process, the team also interacted with residents and commercial establishments to receive much needed feedback and recommendations on collection action which can be taken to added concern.
The areas visited included the CDC housing areas, Barnard Hill, Darling Road , Chaussee Road. The Manager of the National Housing Authority Mrs. Sidonia Childs noted that this activity was a demonstration of how state agencies must come together to address common challenges. Mr. Cassian Henry who headed the SLSWMA’s team also saw this as a useful exercise which he indicated should be replicated in other areas.
The agencies took a number of decisions which when implemented would help address the poor waste management challenges in the areas visited.

As part of efforts to improve public health and the environment, the Saint Lucia Solid Waste Management Authority in collaboration with Ministry of Health has instituted a derelict vehicle removal exercise. The exercise which started late last month has thus far resulted in the removal of nineteen derelict vehicles in public spaces. As efforts continue, six derelict vehicles were removed in Gros-Islet and the Cabiche areas yesterday, Wednesday October 17. The collaboration on this activity is only a temporary initiative as the responsibility for removal of derelict vehicles lies with the owner(s).
