(𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐚, 𝐓𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝟐𝟖, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔), The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MGCSP) is currently participating in the African Union (AU) Specialized Technical Committee (STC) meeting on Social Development, Labour and Employment, with Director of Social Protection, Mr. Josiah Domah, representing Liberia at the high-level continental gathering taking place from July 27–31, 2026, in Windhoek, Republic of Namibia.

The meeting is convened under the 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐞: "𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚: 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞."

The forum brings together ministers, senior government officials, policymakers, development partners, and social protection experts from across the African continent to deliberate on innovative strategies for strengthening social protection systems, promoting decent work, advancing inclusive social development, and fostering resilience among vulnerable populations.

As Liberia's representative, Dir. Domah is engaging in technical discussions and policy dialogues aimed at enhancing social protection frameworks across Africa while sharing Liberia's experiences, progress, and ongoing reforms in expanding access to social protection programmes.

Liberia's participation reaffirms the Government's commitment, through the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, to building inclusive and responsive social protection systems that safeguard the rights and well-being of vulnerable women, children, older persons, persons with disabilities, and other at-risk populations.

The Ministry has continued to spearhead several transformative social protection initiatives designed to reduce poverty, strengthen household resilience, and promote social inclusion. These efforts align with the Government of Liberia's development priorities and the African Union's Agenda 2063, which envisions a prosperous and inclusive Africa where no one is left behind.

The outcomes of the Specialized Technical Committee meeting are expected to inform policy direction and strengthen regional collaboration on social protection, labour, and employment, while accelerating collective efforts toward achieving social justice and sustainable development across the continent.

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection remains committed to collaborating with regional and international partners to strengthen Liberia's social protection architecture and ensure that every vulnerable citizen has access to opportunities that promote dignity, resilience, and inclusive development.

(𝐁𝐮𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐧, 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐲), The Adolescent Girls' Advisory Panel (AGAP), operating under the Adolescent Girls Division of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MGCSP), has launched a three-day advocacy and educational outreach programme as part of activities marking Liberia's 179th Independence Day celebration in Buchanan.

The initiative, which runs from Saturday, 25 July through Monday, 27 July 2026, is being implemented with support from UNICEF and is aimed at advancing girls' rights while providing educational support to adolescent girls participating in the national Independence Day festivities.

The outreach features interactive awareness sessions, peer engagement, mentorship, and the distribution of educational materials, all designed to empower adolescent girls with the knowledge, confidence, and life skills necessary to remain in school, make informed decisions, realise their full potential, and become active contributors to Liberia's national development.

Beyond commemorating the nation's independence, the initiative underscores the importance of investing in adolescent girls as catalysts for sustainable development. It also highlights the Ministry's unwavering commitment to promoting gender equality, protecting girls from harmful practices, and creating opportunities that enable every girl to thrive.

The advocacy campaign reflects the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection's continued resolve to ensure that national celebrations serve not only as moments of patriotism but also as platforms for advancing the rights, education, leadership, and overall well-being of Liberia's adolescent girls.

Through strategic partnerships with UNICEF and other stakeholders, the Ministry remains steadfast in its efforts to empower adolescent girls, amplify their voices, and equip them with the tools needed to become confident leaders and agents of positive change within their communities and across the nation.

(Monrovia, Liberia), As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional effectiveness and improve public service delivery, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection last week commenced a comprehensive two-month internal capacity-building training for staff across its various divisions and units.

The initiative is designed to equip employees with the knowledge and practical skills needed to enhance administrative efficiency, improve program implementation, and promote professionalism throughout the Ministry.

The training focuses on critical areas, including office procedures and report writing, concept note and project proposal development, data collection and reporting, computer and secretarial skills, gender equality and mainstreaming, as well as child protection systems and safeguarding practices.

The two-month in-house training program is being organized under the auspices of the Human Resource Division of the ministry to respond to the growing need of strengthening staff competencies in key administrative and programmatic functions to ensure accountability, effective communication, and the successful implementation of government policies and interventions.

The training will is being delivered through interactive presentations, group discussions, practical exercises, and question-and-answer sessions, providing participants with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience.

By the end of the two-month training, staff of the ministry are expected to demonstrate improved competence in applying standard office procedures, producing professional reports, developing quality project proposals, collecting and analyzing data accurately, integrating gender equality into programs and workplace practices, and effectively implementing child protection and safeguarding measures.

The HR Division believes that the training will not only enhance individual performance but also strengthen teamwork, improve service delivery, and contribute to building a more responsive, efficient, and results-oriented institution capable of meeting the evolving needs of the Liberian people.

Meanwhile, the training continues this Friday, July 24, 2026.

In an effort to strengthen collaboration with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, the newly elected leadership of the National Peace Hut Women, accompanied by the Women NGO Secretariat of Liberia (WONGOSOL), paid a courtesy visit to Gender Minister, Hon. Gbeme Horace-Kollie.

The visit, facilitated by WONGOSOL, formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration among women's organizations, government institutions, and development partners in advancing Liberia's Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda.

Speaking on behalf of the National Peace Hut Women, Madam Velma Sajery, National President, expressed sincere appreciation to Minister Horace-Kollie for receiving the delegation, and for her continued leadership in advancing women's empowerment, gender equality, and the Women, Peace and Security Agenda. She congratulated the Minister on her stewardship of the Ministry and acknowledged its commitment to supporting initiatives that empower women and promote peaceful communities.

Madam Sajery explained that Peace Hut Women continue to serve as frontline peacebuilders across Liberia by mediating community conflicts, promoting reconciliation, preventing violence, and supporting survivors of abuse. However, she noted that many long-standing donor partners have either reduced or withdrawn financial support due to global funding constraints, placing significant pressure on the Movement and limiting its ability to sustain community outreach, mediation services, and organizational development.

She added that without renewed institutional and financial support, many Peace Hut structures risk becoming inactive, thereby weakening one of Liberia's most successful community peacebuilding mechanisms. She therefore appealed to the Ministry of Gender to champion the cause of the National Peace Hut Women by advocating for increased support from the Government and development partners.

Welcoming the delegation, Hon. Gbeme Horace-Kollie, Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, commended the National Peace Hut Women for their unwavering commitment to promoting peace and social cohesion throughout Liberia. She described the Peace Hut Movement as one of Liberia's most respected community peacebuilding structures and acknowledged the tremendous sacrifices made by Peace Hut Women over the years in preventing conflicts, resolving disputes, protecting vulnerable women and girls, and fostering peaceful coexistence across communities.

Minister Horace-Kollie reaffirmed that supporting community peacebuilding remains a key priority of the Ministry under Liberia's Women, Peace and Security Framework. While acknowledging the Ministry's financial constraints, she assured the delegation of the Ministry's continued commitment to leveraging its partnerships with development partners to advocate for increased investment in Peace Hut initiatives.

The Minister also disclosed that during a recent meeting with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), discussions were held on future support for Peace Hut activities. She noted that UNDP had expressed its willingness to resume support for the Peace Hut Movement beginning next year, subject to donor funding approval.

Madam Horace-Kollie further revealed that the President has proposed the establishment of a National Museum to preserve Liberia's history and honor individuals and institutions that played significant roles in promoting peace and reconciliation. According to the Minister, President Boakai specifically recognized the historic contribution of the Peace Hut Women to Liberia's peace process and proposed that the museum include a dedicated section celebrating the Peace Hut Movement and documenting the extraordinary sacrifices made by Liberian women during and after the country's civil conflict.

The Minister concluded by encouraging the newly elected leadership to remain united, strengthen coordination among Peace Hut structures across the country, continue documenting their achievements, and remain prepared to engage government institutions and development partners as new opportunities emerge.

The National Peace Hut Movement remains one of Liberia's most recognized community peacebuilding initiatives. Established with the support of UN Women through the late Madam Annie Nushann of Totota, B**g County, the movement has played a pivotal role in promoting peace, reconciliation, mediation, and the prevention of violence within communities.

For more than two decades, Peace Hut Women have served as trusted community mediators and advocates for women's rights, making significant contributions to Liberia's post-conflict recovery and the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda.

(Monrovia, Liberia) – Deputy Minister for Research, Policy and Planning at the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Curtis V. Dorley, on Thursday, July 16, 2026, officially launched the 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐒𝐧𝐚𝐩𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, describing the document as a critical policy roadmap that will guide national planning, strengthen gender-responsive policies, and promote inclusive economic growth through strategic investments in the care economy.

The launch was held under the auspices of UN Women Liberia, with support from the Governments of Norway and Sweden. The launched of the Liberia Care Snapshot is a landmark assessment highlighting the critical role of paid and unpaid care work in driving inclusive economic growth and advancing women's economic empowerment.

Launching the report on behalf of the Government of Liberia, DMRPP Dorley said that Liberia's Care Snapshot positions the country within a growing regional movement that recognizes care systems as a fundamental pillar of social justice, women's economic empowerment, and sustainable development.

Highlighting the report's findings, the Deputy Minister noted that women across the region continue to shoulder a disproportionate share of unpaid care work. In Liberia, women perform 2.1 times more unpaid care work than men, a reality that limits women's participation in the labor force, constrains productivity, and reinforces economic inequality.

"These figures are not merely statistics; they reflect the lived realities of millions of women and girls whose unpaid care responsibilities often go unrecognized," he stated.

"Care is not a social cost, it is a productive investment."

He emphasized that addressing unequal care responsibilities could significantly boost Liberia's economy, noting that closing gender gaps in labor force participation linked to unpaid care work could increase the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by an estimated 23.7 percent. He stressed that investments in childcare services, social protection, clean water and sanitation, family-friendly workplace policies, and support for older persons and persons with disabilities should be viewed as strategic national development priorities.

Dorley further indicated that the report aligns with the Government of Liberia's 𝘼𝙍𝙍𝙀𝙎𝙏 𝘼𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙖 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙄𝙣𝙘𝙡𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝘿𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙥𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 (𝘼𝘼𝙄𝘿), particularly its focus on human capital development, gender equality, women's economic empowerment, and improved social protection. He described the report as more than a diagnostic assessment, calling it "a policy roadmap" that should guide legislation, national planning, budget prioritization, and development programming.

"As Deputy Minister responsible for Research, Policy and Planning, I firmly believe that sound public policy begins with credible evidence. The findings of this report should guide future legislation, strengthen budget prioritization, and improve the everyday lives of Liberian families," he stated.

He also commended UN Women, the United Nations Country Team, development partners, researchers, statisticians, civil society organizations, and women's groups for their technical and financial support in producing the report. He called on government ministries, agencies and commissions to embrace the findings as a whole-of-government and whole-of-society agenda, emphasizing that building an effective care system requires coordinated leadership, sustained investment, reliable data, and strong political commitment.

Also speaking, UN Women Liberia Representative, Dr. Abul Hasnat Monjurul Kabir, stressed that investing in care is a smart investment that yields substantial social and economic returns, emphasizing that a stronger care economy is essential to achieving inclusive growth, advancing women's economic empowerment, and accelerating sustainable development in Liberia.

The launch brought together representatives from government institutions, development partners, the private sector, civil society organizations, academia, youth groups, and the media to discuss evidence-based policies aimed at recognizing, reducing, and redistributing unpaid care work while strengthening Liberia's care economy.

The Liberia Care Snapshot provides an important evidence base to inform future policies and strategic investments that promote gender equality, create jobs, reduce poverty, and accelerate the country's sustainable development agenda.

In conclusion, Deputy Minister Dorley expressed confidence that the report will inspire bold policy reforms, strengthen national partnerships, and drive investments that improve the lives of women, children, caregivers, older persons, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable populations across Liberia.

Deputy Minister Dorley was accompanied by a cross-section of Ministry staff, including the Assistant Minister for Gender, Madam Ophelia J. S. Kennedy; the Director of Research and Statistics, Samuel Ekyinabah; and Director of the Gender and Social Inclusion Unit (GSIU), Madam Lawodo Nimely Thomas respectively.

As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen gender-responsive governance and promote inclusive national development, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MGCSP), is currently convening a Gender, Social And Inclusion Unit (GSIU) Sector Coordination Meeting aimed at enhancing inter-agency collaboration and improving the effectiveness and efficiency of Gender-Responsive Planning and Budgeting (GRPB) implementation across government sectors.

The meeting brings together Gender and Social Inclusion Unit (GSIU) focal persons and representatives from line ministries, agencies, commissions, and key stakeholders to reinforce institutional coordination, clarify roles and responsibilities, and promote a more harmonized approach to advancing gender equality and social inclusion within national development processes.
